What should I do with my Non-B visa extension before I leave Thailand to apply for a different visa?

I need some information. I have a Non-B 1-year extension that will expire in late February of this year. I don't plan to apply for a new extension as I'm planning to apply for a different kind of visa from outside of Thailand. In this case, can I just leave Thailand and will the visa expire automatically after the expiry date, or do I need to go to immigration to cancel it?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the procedure for canceling their Non-B 1-year visa extension before leaving Thailand to apply for a different visa from abroad. Community members advised that the extension should be canceled at immigration before departure to avoid overstay fines. Essential steps include canceling the work permit, preparing required documents (work permit cancellation form, proof of employment termination, etc.), and possibly handling the process without an agent. It's also suggested to visit immigration up to a week before the visa expiration date.

At most immigration offices you can go about a week before the cancellation date you have on your paperwork, and they will cancel your extension and then stamp you in until the date on the paperwork

When you stop working you need to cancel your work permit and then take the paperwork from that to immigration and cancel your extension of stay. You can do this in advance with documentation from your employer otherwise you need to leave on the day you cancel

thanks for your reply. So my extension is valid until 24th February. And I'm hoping to leave around 22-24th. In this case how can I do this in advance? The agent who was looking after these paper works I'm not using them anymore. I'm the company director. Can you please share more information like the steps I need to follow and what sort of papers I'll need. Is it a complicated process or I can do it by myself? I've Thai partner so she can go with me and communicate with the officers in Thai. If I can do it by myself then I'd prefer not to get an agent. Just need to know the steps and what documents I'll need. TIA

Tawan2026 you'd be better taking professional advice as I guess there's also the question of what happens to your company

I actually have an Thai accountant friend who's taking care of the company dissolution, however, she is not that familiar with visa matters. That's why I am trying to gather information.

You are not on a visa but on an extension (as you started saying) and the extension must be cancelled before you leave or potentially get overstay fines at a later date

Tawan2026 your employer provides what documentation you need and you take this to Immigration in advance and they will give you a new stamp to coincide with your last day of employment
