I entered Thailand in November on a Non O for medical purposes, sponsored by the hospital. I'm stamped in until Feb 1.
I'm currently finalizing paperwork to return home to Vietnam, and expect to leave on Feb 5.
The hospital said since I'm done with treatment I can either do the Covid extension or just pay the overstay at the airport.
Of course just paying at the airport seems easiest, but I don't want to get in any trouble, especially it if would interfere with my departure flight.
Do you agree with the options that I was given, and what would you recommend?
Thanks!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a Non O visa for medical purposes in Thailand and is considering options for staying beyond the expiry date. They have been advised by the hospital that they can either apply for a COVID-19 extension or pay an overstay fine at the airport. While paying the overstay fee is presented as simpler, there are concerns about potential complications at the airport. Community comments suggest that paying for an extension is a safer option, yet indicate that minor overstays (less than 90 days) should not result in severe penalties as long as they are reported at departure.

And on that note we're done. Good luck to the O/P she has two choices, GO get the covid extension OR pays the overstay when she stamps out.
What this thread isn't gonna turn into is a bunch of scare mongering on what "could" happen.
As a rule overstay itself is not all that perilous or dangerous. As long as you're "turning yourself in" (going to the airport to fly out) and your overstay is under 90 days you just pay the fine and leave
The REAL problem is if someone gets caught out on something else while on overstay :O That's when people can run off the rails :/
