Hello

I have a 60 day tourist visa issued in Australia. I want to extend my stay by 30 days. I arrived 14 February. Current ticketed departure date is 13 April.

I am currently in Chiang Mai until 14 March.

I have seen somewhere that extensions can only be done one day before visa expiry date. Is that correct? I would like to arrange the extension as soon as possible. Could I do this now?

Also I have looked on the web for the extension requirements and do not see onward ticket out of Thailand as a requirement for the extension. Is that correct?

As I will be changing my current return ticket I do not have dates at this stage. Have not decided yet on next destination after Thailand extension runs out.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a 60-day tourist visa issued in Australia and is seeking to extend their stay in Thailand by 30 days while currently in Chiang Mai. They are unsure about the correct timing for applying for the extension and the requirement for an onward ticket. Comments indicate that the extension can be applied for before the visa expiry date and that an onward ticket is not required for a tourist visa extension in Chiang Mai. Required documents for the extension include a passport copy, a passport photo, and a fee of 1900 baht.

and after deleting a LOT of not all that good answers I will leave these two seeing as they're the correct answers for Chiang Mai.

Flight out is not required at Chiang Mai immigration when applying for an extension. If you are on a tourist visa they do not seem concerned about you having lodged a TM30, (other visa types, they care very much about whether you have a TM30). If you have been staying in a hotel it is likely that the hotel has registered you with immigration anyway. You need a copy of your data page of your passport and a passport photo and 1900 baht. You can fill out the application for extension forms at immigration

Also you can apply at any time for your extension, you do not need to wait until the day before. The 30 day extension is added on to your existing permitted to stay date ie you don't lose any days by applying early
