What should I know about applying for a Thai eVisa to avoid mistakes?

Jul 12, 2025
2 days ago
I applied for DTV visa and got cancelled because wrong passport number.

Fun fact: the Evisa website loads the data of my passport picture and I trusted that they correctly read my passport photo. The Evisa website read my passport number with O instead of 0.

Lesson learnd: never trust this evisa system, always write your information manually otherwise they collect a 14000 Baht just for pleasure...!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user experienced a cancellation of their DTV visa due to a passport number misread by the eVisa system, which interpreted the number incorrectly. They emphasize the importance of verifying entered information and suggest that applicants should manually input details rather than relying solely on the automated reading system. This sparked a discussion about how small errors can lead to significant financial loss and frustrations with the Thai immigration process. Many commenters shared similar experiences, advocating for a system that allows for corrections and highlighting the frequent issues with the eVisa application process.

Seeking Justice for a Minor Visa Application Error 🇹🇭🚫

Pls help!

My husband's Thai eVisa application was denied due to a small mistake in his name format. The application showed "Muhammad M. Abullaah," but his passport omits the initial "M." Shockingly, we were denied the chance to correct the error and were informed that our 8,820 THB (AED 1,000) application fee won't be refunded.

Key points:

* Paid a significant fee (8,820 THB/AED 1,000)

* Rejected due to a minor error in name format

* No opportunity provided to rectify the mistake

* Unfair denial of refund or modification

Please share your advice on how to resolve this issue and seek justice for our situation. Your support is truly appreciated!

The moment you put full trust in an automated reading system is the moment you screwed up.

I’ll admit, having OCD can be a nightmare sometimes, but in situations like this, it’s a blessing in disguise for me. Before I submitted my DTV application, I must’ve gone over it at least ten times, obsessively checking every tiny detail 🤣

I used the site and also feel i got the short end of the stick so I will not longer try to live in Thailand..think of all the money I would have spent there in 5 years all the services I would have bought but because they have a faulty system I will relocate to a country with easier immigration process

spit the dummy. A real adult response. Thailand probably better off without you, or your response is so. Good luck to you and I hope you find an easy life somewhere.

You really believe the country will miss how much you would potentially spend here? Seriously? I'm sure government officials will find it difficult to sleep tonight! 😆😆😆

Isn't it amusing how these whizz-bang digital nomads can't read simple digits! And then blame the scanning system! Hilarious 😂😂😂

Anonymous participant why are you? Are you offended? Why do you think my reply was meant offensively?

I'm simply pointing out that what you experienced is common and often reported. Don't be so sensitive Mr/Ms/Mrs Anonymous...

Have social media really made people this touchy and feeble?

It’s Kafka manifested. Never doubt the power of the Thai IT overlords to haunt naive form fillers.

The OCR is known to be flawed, that said, who knows the quality of the uploaded passport biodata page it's reading from. Triple check everything, edit if necessary after uploading the biodata, check again that all the edited and OCR info is stored correctly. You can preview the collected/saved data before submitting.

OCR = optical character recognition, machine readable text

The point Is that we are human and we can make very small mistakes. To make it fair there should be an option to edit that data after being submitted for free or for a small

us$ fee. I know we should pay attention and triple check but getting 350$ busted for a small mistake seems way too much in my opinion

It literally IS possible to edit after scanning passport. And the official E-Visa "manual" even points out to double-check.

What would trigger you to correct the data after submitting the application, why not check just before submitting?

just windering why some people are just here for having fun about other people mistakes. But doesn't matter. Everyone has his own unique life goals like hanging on sone groups because boringness
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer I am not making fun about other peoples mistakes, if you read all my posts in this topic, you would see it is my opinion they designed the system wrong. It should not be possible to enter data before scanning, getting it overwritten, and after scanning you should get a message that you have to check and correct the scanned data. Making an option to correct after submitting does not really make sense. What should people make aware they might check their data again? And what would be possible to change in that case? All data? Or just scanned data?
Anonymous ******************
So when I applied, it had my birthday incorrect, even though I manually entered it so I took a screenshot of that and I put it in my application and I said that there’s a problem with your computer system and it will not enter my birthday correctly, and I will not have my application denied based on the biometric data being incorrect due to your websiteand they approved me without asking for any additional paperwork

it’s really unfortunate.

Staff must know this is happening yet it continues. They claim they can’t/aren’t permitted to amend an applicants details. This is a lack of common sense, customer service and bordering on dishonesty.

@Christopher **********
No it is not, embassy staff should never be allowed to change your personal data, legally that would not be a good idea.

You, and only you are responsible for your correct personal data.

That said, the application should not make it possible you enter data before scanning the passport picture over write data entered by you.

After the scan it should ask you if scanned data is correct and give options to correct.

@Luit ****************
Yes it is. You wouldn’t be happy to lose 14,000 baht due to a known error which they neither fix nor put a stopgap measure in place for when it happens.
Luit *****************
@Christopher **********
you loose the visa fee because of not fully checking your application. Most embassies warn for this. The system does not have a known error, it just could be designed better.

This issue has been posted on here many many times.

I've not seen it but I am sure there would be something that says VERIFY your details, you did not and now you submitted wrong details.
