Title: DTV Rejected for “Missing suffix (Jr.)” — Questions about name format + financial proof (IRA)
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share an issue I ran into and ask two quick questions.
I recently applied for the Thailand DTV visa and was rejected, with the rejection reason stating:
“Missing suffix on the last name on the application.”
My passport name includes “Jr.”, but the application form did not have a dedicated suffix field, so I entered my last name without it. I now realize they wanted “Jr.” included anyway (likely in the last name field).
Question 1 (Name / Jr. issue):
For anyone with “Jr.” on their passport, how did you enter it on the DTV application?
Did you put it as Last Name: LASTNAME JR or LASTNAME, JR?
Also — since the rejection was specifically for the missing suffix, do they usually stop reviewing the application immediately, or do they still review the rest of the documents before rejecting?
Question 2 (Financial proof / IRA):
I don’t keep 500,000 THB (or $17,000 USD) sitting in my checking account. Most of my funds are in an IRA (well above the minimum requirement).
Has anyone successfully used IRA / brokerage statements as proof of funds for DTV, or do they automatically reject unless it’s a personal checking/savings account with 3 months history?
Do they request additional documents, or is it usually an immediate denial if the funds aren’t in a regular bank account?
Thanks in advance — hoping this helps someone else avoid the same mistake.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user recently faced rejection of their Thailand DTV visa due to a missing suffix in the name on their application, which was not accommodated by the application form. They inquired how to correctly include the suffix 'Jr.' in future applications and if the review stops immediately upon such errors. Additionally, they questioned if IRA funds could be used as proof of financials for the visa, as they do not maintain a significant amount in a checking account. Responses indicated that applications are typically halted immediately with errors, and that IRA or investment accounts are generally not accepted as proof of funds by Thai embassies.
No they don't review anything else on the application package when an initial error in the name is not matching your passport. They stop right there as there is no point continuing. Your financials do not meet requirements.
Do not add characters to the name field, I believe the form specifically says not to add anything, enter the name exactly as it appears in the >>>MRZ>>> zone. Suggest you show your funds in a normal bank account, what's accepted or rejected will be embassy dependent.
