Why was my DTV visa application rejected despite meeting the financial criteria?

DTV rejected from embassy in Singapore, even though I meet the criteria

For context, I am a Singaporean applying for the DTV as a remote freelance worker (I’m registered as a sole prop under ACRA). I’ve gotten my visa rejected even though I meet all the criteria (sufficient funds of min. 500K THB for 3 months)

I waited until I got my October 2025 bank statement, and this time I was sure that I had the minimum amount for 3 consecutive months - Aug, Sep, Oct 2025. I had all the other documents prepped and ready so all there was left to do was to compile the PDFs, and submit.

They emailed me the next working day requesting for more documents- those that didn’t have the upload field in the original application, such as the letter explaining my work, my ACRA business profile, and they even asked me to reupload my passport photo, because the background was slightly yellow (from scanning) instead of white. What confused me the most was that they said I had insufficient funds for October.

I took a second look at my October statement, which had more than enough funds. I thought maybe it was overlooked, as the 3 months’ of bank statements from multiple accounts totaled to about 42 pages.

I submitted my October statements again, and received an email saying my visa had been rejected due to insufficient funds in October.

It turns out that my bank statement did not reflect that I had the funds at the end of the month- it was only reflected in the account summary. For that, they claimed there’s no proof I have the funds. I emailed them to clarify if this was what they meant, but I haven’t gotten a reply so I’m going to appeal in person.

I really want to get the visa. Has anyone had a similar experience? If so, please share!

You are supposed to present the application, making it as easy as possible for the agent reviewing it. Its clear that you have absolutely no idea how bureaucracy works - so my only and best advice to you is that you use an agent who know how to properly fill in a form

When you submit your bank account statements, especially those that have a high page count, it is best to highlight the relevant information (Date. Closing amount. Your name.), so the person checking can easily find it. Imagine how many different banks' statements they look at and how different they all are formatted. Don't leave it to chance they will see what you want them to. When I submitted my bank statements I also included a cover letter telling them exactly what they looking at:

Statement 1: Dated xx/xx/2025 showing a closing balance of $XX, XXX

Statement 2: Dated xx/xx/2025 showing a closing balance of $XX, XXX

And so on. Lead the horse to water and show it how to drink. Don't assume it knows how.

I dont think it must be 500k for all 3 months, but the last one. I got approved with funds on the account for only last 2 months (october, september). I had only 40k THB on account in the August.

You application was not good enough. People don't have the money in savings or move money and it's like the minimum. Yiu think the embassy is stupid. You didn't even submit a complete application and now you want to complain. Best for you now you know go to Laos and apply again new but now you know what they want. It's easy if you know what your doing. Vientiane also does interview so it's all clear when you leave and next day pick up visa

Try to have all amounts in one place for 3 months , the total amount required and a bit more and then re-apply.

There is no appeal process and most likely you won’t get passed the security guard if you go in person. They told you your document wasn’t sufficient and you did nothing to correct it. What did you think would happen ?

When dumping a 42 page bank statement on an embassy staffer, be sure to highlight the relevant data, account holders name, account number, month/date, opening balance, closing balance etc. A brief cover letter included and compressed into your PDF upload will help them understand what it is they are looking at and confirm the appropriate submission.

Hi there, Singaporean here. Sorry to hear about the rejection. There must have been some confusion over the bank statements. A visa agent I consulted for my application told me that they’re very particular about the financial evidence, so you really need to be careful about how you present the information and to show them more than the minimum requirement if you can. I wouldn’t try again in Singapore, probably better to go somewhere else.

This is precisely why I told my Singaporean husband to NOT apply in Singapore. We went to Hanoi to apply and his got approved in one shot.

You imply this is your 2nd rejection? For the same reason? If the funds were in your account at the end of October why was that not reflected in your statement? Also it might be easier using a single account if you retry.
