What should I expect after applying for a 90-day non-O visa based on retirement in Jomtien?

I have a particular question about what happens in the weeks after applying for non-O based on retirement.

Context: I will self-apply for a 90day non-O based on retirement in Jomtien, and ~2 months later for a 1year extension. I will be using the 800k in bank method.

I will apply in early August, and then plan taking a 30+ days trip through Thailand. My understanding is; that I will be getting an ‘under consideration’ stamp in my passport on the day of the application.

My questions are:

- Will I get my passport back on the day of the application, or will it stay with immigration during the ‘under consideration’ period?

- How long is the ‘under consideration’ period?

- Do I need to be back at Jomtien immigration on a specific date (eg. 14 days later), or can I immediately start my trip and return to Jomtien immigration at a later time, say 45days after the initial application for the 90day non-O. I will be staying in Thailand for the entire period.

- Will there be any 90day reporting requirements?

Thanks for helping!

TLDR : Answer Summary
After applying for a 90-day non-O visa based on retirement in Jomtien, you will receive an 'under consideration' stamp in your passport. Your passport will typically be retained by immigration during this period, which lasts around two weeks. You will need to return to the Jomtien immigration office on the specified date to collect your passport with the new visa stamp. You can travel within Thailand in the meantime, as long as you return on time. Additionally, there are no 90-day reporting requirements until after your one-year extension is granted.

I would just build into the plan that ONCE you apply for the 90 day Non-O visa for 2000baht at Jomtien you sit tight until you go back and get the Non-O and new 90 day stamp inked in from them. you have to show up on the date they tell you there is no wiggle room involved with it. BUT as people pointed out it's usually just a 14 day under review period.

Then you have a couple months to travel around until your 90 day stamp runs down to 30 days or less when you can go apply for the year extension for 1900baht (you apply, pay the money and pick your passport back up the next day).

Also the 90 day reporting won't start until you get the year extension, that's when they'll give you a slip telling you when to come back and do your first 90 day report

thank you for the detailed feedback.

I'll guess I'll have plenty of time to explore the country after getting the 90 day stamp 👍

BTW Jomtien immigration keeps your passport until the Non O Visa is approved and entered in it...usually three weeks after you make the Non O application. Then you proceed with the one year extension of the stay application.

Suggest that you ask Jomtien immigration office for their requirements for both Non O Visa as retiree and the One year extension of stay as retired.

My experience, going through the same process but in Bangkok was...

Submit non-o application, with more than 15 days remaining on current stamp and pay 2000THB.

Passport returned that day, no change in stamp but a blue receipt, stamped with a date to return (roughly 2 weeks time)

A week after the application was submitted, I received a phone call from immigration, confirming my availability for a home visit the following day.

Home visit, mini-interview with the IO, conversations with some of the staff at my condo, and photos.

Returned to the IO as per the date on the blue slip. Stamped in for 90 days, from application.

Yes, to 90 day reporting.

did you apply for a non-O based on marriage or retirement?

Jomtien is one of the most arbitrary immigration offices in Thailand. Hard to answer any questions about that office since they seem to make it up on the fly sometimes it seems. Best bet is to find out directly from them.

To apply for the 90 day Non-O visa inside Thailand you must have at least 15 days left on your current permission to stay. When you apply they send your application to head office and 15 days later you go back to get your Non-O stamped into your passport. When you have 30 days or less left on the Non-O visa you go apply for the 12 months extension. There is no under consideration period.

a Lot of questions about what will happen in August.

Best is to take this list with you and ask the officer who handles your application.

If you get an under consideration period, you have to be back on mentioned date in the stamp.
