What should I know about my Non-O Retirement visa process in Thailand as a Canadian expat?

I need some advice on my Thailand visa process.

- Canadian passport. 50+ years old.

- Entered Thailand on a visa exempt stamp.

- Provided all required info for a Non-O (retirement) to the Phuket Immigration office.

- Went back to immigration office yesterday (as I was instructed to do), and passport was stamped 3 times. First a Non-O visa which appears to be valid on April 17th, then another stamp below it (in Thai) which I think cancels it. Third stamp says Non-O (retirement) which is also dated April 17, but only has a 3 month validity. Immigration office told me to come back before July 15th for my 'extension (?)'.

- Asked the English speaking officers what it meant and was told it's something they refer to as a 'transfer' visa. I'm not sure what I currently have?

- My main issue is I won't be in Thailand near 15th of July (summer holiday) and won't be able to get to Phuket Immigration office. English person at immigration told me I could come within 45 days prior to end of 90 day validity, however that's essentially the period I won't be in Thailand.

Questions:

1. Do I actually have a Non-O Retirement visa now?

2. Is it normal to only have a 90 day validity to begin with?

3. Can I go back prior to the 45 day period to get the 'extension'?
