— HELP: STOLEN PASSPORT: flying to bkk soon … who to contact?! Please read below —

I need some advice regarding my Muay Thai DTV (Soft Power) visa and my visa is digital (I have an online copy and a printed version - nothing was in my actual passport luckily)

I applied and was approved digitally in Hanoi, but my old Canadian passport was stolen recently and I now have a new passport. I need to update my passport number for my visa, and the Muay Thai school is updating the invitation letter for me.

Has anyone been in this situation before? Who should I contact, and what steps do I need to take to make sure my visa is recognized when I fly to Bangkok on November 5 from Madrid?

- I have a photo of my old passport

- a photo of my new passport

- police report

- all emails with the Canadian embassy regarding my stolen passport

- all DTV documents/pics digitally I used when applying in Hanoi and being approved

Are there any agents in Chiang Mai or elsewhere who can help with this process also?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated — I want to avoid any issues at immigration.

Thank you!

Shannon

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, Shannon, is seeking advice about updating her Muay Thai DTV visa after having her old Canadian passport stolen and now holding a new passport. She has necessary documents like a police report and digital copies of her visa. Community responses suggest contacting the local Immigration Office for transferring the visa to the new passport, but also caution that depending on the immigration officer, she might need to apply for a new visa instead. Additionally, reaching out to the embassy for guidance is recommended.

I tried to transfer my visa because that my old passport was damaged. I had both passports when I went to immigration and they told me it was a requirement I had both passports and that passport number could not be changed on a digital visa. I hope you can get it resolved, but I think you should prepare yourself for the possibility of having to apply for a new visa. If you have pictures of every page of your old passport and the police report, maybe the immigration officer will accept it in the airport, but I think it’s a gamble and depends on who you meet

Your embassy!!

Since the visa now points to a stolen passport, the best idea might be to contact the embassy/consulate where the visa was issued.

Tell them the passport was stolen, maybe with police report.

Maybe they can change the number, but most likely they will void the old visa and ask you to apply for a new visa.

Ideally you'd have color photos of every page of the missing passport, not just biodata page. Print out all your various proofs for the IO. Your hurdle is passport control accepting the photos of the old passport as genuine proof. Worst case scenario you get stamped in 60 days visa exempt and try and get a fix in Thailand.

It isnt a tourist visa, it's a visa exempt stamp, not a visa at all.

I feel like going in on a tourist visa would void the DTV

Please bring everything you have to the local Immigration Office where you registered your TM30, and ask them to transfer your visa stamp to your new passport. No government fee needed

they can do this in Chiang Mai or better to go to the MFA/Immigration Bureau in Bangkok once I arrive?

Also, Will they still let me into the country when I arrive in BKK airport? (If I get a tourist entry will that also ruin my DTV to transfer it over?)

I'll give you the short ugly truth. Even if you were to get in on a DTV stamp this time, you'd have to do this every 6 months for the next 5 years. The approved passport that the issued visa is tied to is missing, typically you would have had to carry both passports for 5 years.

Ultimately you're going to have to apply for a new DTV.

It is not a stamp that has to be transferred, so immigration will not do.

MJ can you help my customer? She has the DTV printout but it displays her old passport number. She just really needs that communicating to the IO when she enters Thailand.

I’m not in Chiang Mai. I’m heading to Barcelona the day after tomorrow for a week and then flying from Madrid to Bangkok . I don’t have a visa stamp; just the ones entering and exiting.

My actual visa is on a paper and digital copy - not in my passport

Hopefully, you can use a letter from your Embassy, If the new passport is issued by the embassy inside Thailand, you should have a Letter from Embassy confirming replacement of old passport with new passport

this might not be the right answer but I think i heard this once on here before. wherever you are you need to go to a thai embassy in that country and have them flip it to your new passport number. The embassies always have thai immigrations people in there.

that ain't gonna happen.

The Royal Thai Embassies and Consulates are technically under MFA = Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Immigration Bureau (which incl. Immigration Offices), is a part of the Royal Thai Police and falls under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior.

Go to your local Immigration Office with all your documents and the police report and ask for advice.
