What should I do to cancel my multiple entry visa after my employer has cancelled my work permit?

I quit my job and left the country for ten days. While I was gone, my former employer cancelled my work permit (as expected). I came back in Saturday night on a 60-day tourist visa and was pulled aside by immigration because I still have a multiple entry visa stamp in my passport that doesn't expire until December 2017. The immigration officer told me that I need to go to immigration and cancel the multiple entry visa. Can you tell me where exactly I need to go and how long I can wait before going?

TLDR : Answer Summary
After returning to Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa, you need to cancel your multiple entry visa which is still valid until December 2017. The immigration officer advised you to visit the immigration office for this process. It's important to take the cancellation receipt of your work permit with you when you go to the immigration office, as it may be required to void any remaining permits or extensions related to your employment. Make sure to go to the immigration office as soon as possible to avoid any issues.

Then you should take the cancellation of work permit receipt to the immigration office and have them cancel that extension of stay based on employment and void the re-entry permit too..

Got it. Thanks for your help. I'll give my former employer a call.

@Joh***
, they could certainly cancel your work permit from the Dept of Labor without you

BUT

what they couldn't do was cancel your extension of stay from the immigration office without you and your passport.

I see. My employer gave me bad advice, apparently. They told me I could leave and they would cancel the permit while I was gone, no problem.

In theory you should have done it BEFORE you left the country :O However, because you got stamped in on your new tourist visa I highly doubt there's gonna be repercussions going in a couple days seeing as you're not on that extension currently.

Do I need to do that ASAP? Is there a penalty for waiting a few days?

If that's who has it, yep ;) I think you're gonna need the receipt of canceling the work permit AND that you quit working for that company to cancel the extension.

So that means I need to get the receipt from my former employer, right?

Another question would be, did they stamp you in for 60 days on the tourist visa you bought OR did they stamp you in for the remainder of your extension?

They stamped me in on the tourist visa.

Here's the real question. DID you have a year-long, multi-entry VISA that you bought from a thai consulate

OR

Did you have a yearly extension of stay that you got from the thai immigration office for 1900baht (and also a re-entry permit)?

They are two completely different things. IF you had an extension of stay, you should have taken the cancellation of the work permit receipt to the thai immigration office and canceled your current extension of stay, THEN exited the country.

It was an extension of stay (I think). I did pay for it when I applied for my work permit.
