Thanks, everyone for your help...

I went to immigration today and no worries... They cancelled my work permit, gave me 2 weeks, and then I have to go back on the 31st and get 2 months.....

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user successfully canceled their work permit and received a 2-week grace period, after which they will get a 2-month visa extension. Participants in the discussion clarified that, unlike the process in other countries, in Thailand, both the work permit and visa must be canceled simultaneously when changing employers. It was also noted that a letter from the employer confirming the end of the employment is necessary.

I'm in Rayong. I had my work permit and visa cancelled in January and then transferrd onto a Covid 60 day visa. I was approached by a school who said they could get me a work permit. In fact my wife is in the process of doing that. Eady, not monotonous process.

It would be a big drama. With the rule in BKK, you will need to cancel visa and work permit and apply same with new company at the same day. If you cancel and apply COVID visa you will not be able to get a new business visa and work permit in Bangkok.

How does that work here? In china to transfer a work permit the company must cancel your visa and then the new company has 30 days to apply and put you back in the system.

You would go to the labor department and cancel your work permit. You'll then go to the immigration office and cancel your extension of stay based on employment. When you cancel your extension of stay based on employment, you have until 11:59 PM *THE SAME DAY* to leave Thailand, OR to apply for another extension. The Thai government is selling a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, that will let you stay for another 60 days. The last day they are selling it is March 30, 2021.

You will not get a "tourist visa", but you will get a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

do you know if you can extend early ?

@Andrew ******
They will not extend it without you first cancelling the extension of stay to my knowledge.
