What should I do if my visa stamp shows one day less than my intended stay in Thailand?

Jun 21, 2025
What should I do, I entered on the 24th of December 2024 and 180 days would be 22nd of June, I ajve booked my flight for this day from bangkok back to my home country.

I have just noticed my passport is stamped to 21st June I'm guessing mistakenly. This is obviously today and I am debating overstaying a day as immigration is shut today and tomorrow and my flight is tomorrow. I have asked the airline about changing this but it is not possible.

What would peoples advice be would 1 day overstay due to a miscalculation of the days on the stamp, to be clear 180 days from entry including day of entry is 22nd of June, be a serious issue if so how?

Also what will happen if I try to board the flight while having the 1 day overstay

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual mistakenly believes they have a 1-day overstay in Thailand due to the immigration stamp's incorrect date. The community advises that since overstaying by less than 24 hours when departing won't typically incur penalties, they can explain their situation to immigration at the airport. It is suggested to either leave today before midnight or inform the immigration officer upon departure to potentially avoid fines. Overstays of under 24 hours are often waived, and many others have experienced similar situations without serious repercussions.

If immigration is shut down today and tomorrow you won’t be charged for overstay I believe. But one day won’t kill you either 😂

Your visa had the correct date of the 21st. December 24th, your arrival day, counts as your first day. If you use something like google to do a calculation for 180 days it counts the 25th as your first day instead of the 24th.

I have made the same mistake and on leaving through immigration was referred to a senior officer who explained the situation and said not to worry as she would allow this to pass without fine or note in my passport. Maybe explain upfront when you get to immigration.

What time is your flight? Is it possible for you to clear immigration today before midnight and wait in the immigration area? Or you can pack all your bags and go to suvarnabhumi airport and talk to immigration officer there. And explain you made a mistake. They might give an extension or free pass. Anyway go today.

Ash H. dial back the paranoia,

they can't hang in departure after stamping out for a whole day,

AND

they aren't gonna get "an extension" or "free pass"

AND

they certainly don't need to go to the airport today 🙁

NOTHING is going to happen to them when they show up tomorrow to stamp out with an overstay of under 24 hours, the 500 baht fine will be waived and they'll be okay exiting the country without any drama

best of luck coming back.. If no plan to come back or apply for future TH visa then you plan works, however, if they have plan to come back then better go and talk to immigration.. Can you guarantee that their future visas won't be dined because you suggested them to not take any action when they still had the chance to do something!?

Ash H. yep, they won't have any issue at all with a single day overstay,

it won't ever affect them comin' in or out of the country,

it won't affect them buying a new visa in FIVE more years when their DTV expires.

They will be FINE 100% no problems at all

if it has absolutely no impact in anyway, why does immigration stamp it into the passport?

to mark that you did indeed not understand the rules 😛 and it's in thai so most foreigners wouldn't have the slightest idea it's even in their passport let alone know what it says 😮

The first 24 hours of an overstay the fine is waived. If more than 24 hours then the fine is 500 baht per day, plus the first day, The maximum fine is capped at 20,000 baht

It is 180 days. The stamp is correct. Just stay out of trouble and at the airport the fine is waived, although you will get an overstay fine waived stamp in your passport

Don’t worry as much as all the old weird guys will say it’s a HUGE problem, 1 day overstay is fine and won’t cause any issues for any future trips.

LAND crossings fine starting with day one 🙂 Air exits waive the 500baht on overstays under 24 hours

once I got fined 500 baht for less than 24h overstay at Suratthani airport to my great surprise. Got away without any fine at Suvarnabhumi a year or two before that in the same situation, go figure…

Just calculated 180 days, with Dec 24th being day 1, and I got June 21st. You are allowed to be here for 180 days, so the day you arrive

is one of those 180 days. Why would you even decide to calculate yourself and not refer to your stamp when scheduling your flight?

Dec: 8 days, Jan: 31, Feb: 28, Mar: 31, Apr: 30, May 31. Then Jun: 21 days - equals 180.

So you're saying in the whole 6 months you've been here you never ONCE bothered to look at the stamp that lets you stay IN thailand 😮 😕

Be that as it may here's how that works

You get 180 days entry stamp BUT the day you stamp in (no matter the time) is counted as day ONE <- which is why your count is off a day

Good news for you, when you fly out on an overstay UNDER 24 hours you will not be fined the 500baht overstay fine and only get a small thai language only stamp in your passport next to the departure stamp saying "overstay under 24 hours fine waived"

There is no problem at all, you're far from the first foreigner in the history of thailand to overstay a day

This happens often, the day you enter is day 1, not day zero. Luckily an overstay of less than 24 hrs when leaving by a flight will not incur a fine, you'll get a stamp saying overstay 1 day fine waived.
