What should I do if my tourist visa in Thailand expires while my passport is with immigration for a new visa?

My visa as a tourist in Thailand is only up to June 13, 2023 and my passport was still in immigration for my approval for my new visa as a Teacher here in Thailand by my employer. Is there any problem if my new visa will be issued after June 13, 2023 or do i need to have visa extension first? but my passport was still in immigration for approval so I cannot apply for my extension? anyone had an experienced like this?

Immigration does not keep your passport. You need to find out who actually has it.

Immigration do indeed keep passport if you use third party like an agent.

if ur passport is with immigration for a new extension ur most likely "Under consideration" you will not be overstay if this is the case

or

is it with ur school or agent?

different results

did you already change from tourist visa to NON B ( working visa)?

Did immigration give you a report date to return to them?

to little info to give 100% correct response

Exactly! And we can assume that either she used an agent, or the school did. Most likely also the agent/school will ship passport back after under consideration is over. It seem pretty obv to me.

And yes, you need to apply for an extension before your visa expires. I assume you gave your passport to your school or agent right? Don't trust them if they say "don't worry, everything ok." A month later they'll tell you "sorry couldn't get visa" and you'll be on a month overstay.

This is only partially correct. If she did visa with agent, she won't be on overstay since she's on "under consideration" atm. The passport is just with them somewhere. Either at immigration in a cabinet, or in some kind of room with a third party. But you are correct that if agent is bad, she is fuck. Choosing a good agent do matter.

Immigration doesn't hold your passport.

If she used an agent they do. Been like this for 20+ years.

Repeating twice won't change the answer. Yes, they do. They have hundred of passport in cabinet waiting for under consideration time to finish. I've seen this with my own two eyes when I went with lawyer a few years ago.

I've been here since 2012 except 1 year in Cambodia, so yeah, I've done everything including border runs. Maybe I misunderstand your question?
