TLDR : Answer Summary
A Non O visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue, regardless of whether you enter Thailand on the day of issuance or later within those 90 days. It does not necessarily have to be applied for from your home country; it can be obtained from various embassies across the region or even within Thailand itself, provided you meet the requirements.

A Non O visa is valid for 90 days from issue date. That means you have 90 days to use it. You will be stamped in for 90 days on arrival whether you enter on day 1 or day 90.

It doesn’t have to be applied for from your home country. Many embassies and consulates around the area will sell you one. You can even buy one in country for 2,000 baht if you meet the requirements.

If you purchase a re-entry permit you can leave during the 90 days. But you have to be back before the 90 days ends to apply for extension. If the 90 days runs out you can leave and return as a tourist, yes.

Thanks for the clarification. I may myself have to purchase a re-entry permit and your reply has cleared this up. I would hope you could do this re-entry application at your local immigration office?

That’s what I was told Stuart. Many thanks for clarifying this. Wasn’t aware of being able to buy though. I’m already done and paid for my application.

You are correct, you don't buy a Visa, you pay an application fee online (via an Embassy) or in country at Immigration.
