Question about my ED visa ending soon.

In a few weeks I need to cancel my ED visa.

Can I cancel my ED visa and apply for a 60 day extension due to Covid?

My problem is I have to wait for proper documents from the university before I can apply for a work permit.

They are telling me it will take 6 months to graduate so no official degree until then.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on whether they can cancel their Education (ED) visa and subsequently apply for a COVID-19 extension due to delays in obtaining graduation documents from their university. Responses indicate that the user needs a formal letter from the university for cancellation and can then apply for an extension. There are also concerns about the transition between visa types, particularly regarding work permissions with the COVID extension.

Okay, this is turning into a train wreck (or it was until I deleted that oh-so long back and forth).

You need to take the paper from your university that says you stop studying on the date your grades came out and GO to the immigration office where you go the extension and cancel it. THEN immediately apply for a 60 day covid extension for 1900baht. End of story.

It is not brain science OR rocket surgery to do that.

People do it all the time.

Good Luck with it, GO and cancel the ED extension and apply for a covid extension.

You can apply for the Covid extension, but you're going to have to leave the country to get a non-B Visa as you can't switch from one non immigrant Visa to another inside the country.

Your post a bit confusing.....

You started university in 2018 ...

And say your graduation is six months from now in mid 2022...

But you will have completed your degree studies in December 2021.

Yes you will need a letter from the university to Thai Immigration to cancel your Ed Visa

Then try to make application for the COVID extension.

Work is not permitted with a COVID extension.

Thanks, this is what I was thinking.

So it’s no problem to change over to extension based on Covid?

Can the application for extension based on Covid be done online, or does it have to be done at immigration?

has to be done in person at the immigration office you have your TM30 address registered.

The decision to grant the COVID extension is at discretion of Thai Immigration Officer.
