Hi everyone, I’m completely lost and need some advice 😞
I applied for the DTV visa at the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh on 13 May 2025. After submitting the additional documents, the status changed to Pending Approval on 15 May, but until now (7 June) there’s been no update.
My Cambodia TR visa expires on 11 June, and I’m really worried they won’t approve the DTV in time. Tomorrow is Sunday, and I can only hope for something on 9 or 10 June, but honestly I don’t think it will be processed that fast.
So I have a few questions:
1. Should I fly to another country and wait there for the result?
2. Can I do a border bounce and come back to Cambodia? If yes, which border do you recommend?
3. Is there any way to extend my Cambodia TR visa without leaving? If yes, please tell me how to do?
I’ve been crawling in my hotel room for nearly 30 days and the expenses are killing me 🤧.
Any advice or similar experience would really help 🙏 Thank you so much!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks advice regarding their DTV visa application status, which has been pending since May, while their Cambodia tourist visa is set to expire on June 11. They are exploring options such as traveling to another country, border bounces, and extending their Cambodian visa. Community members provide insights on potential border options, assistance in extending the Cambodia TR visa without leaving the country, and express concerns about potential delays due to rising tensions in the region.
Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia are rising. I suspect there's much more to this than we can currently imagine. Stay and wait, but develop an escape plan to Laos or Vietnam, so you can reapply there if fighting breaks out.
Short update: In case of a conflict the thai embassy might stay open but the consulates will close for sure. Keep this in mind. And I just read that the expenses are killing you. If you have to leave, the most cost effective option would probably be to take the bus to Savannakhet, Laos and reapply there, as accommodations there cost around 300 to 400 baht and food is also very cheap. I got my visa there within three days. Since Savannakhet is right on the border, once you have received your visa you can simply take a bus across the Mekong to Thailand and from the Thai border town of Mukdahan you can take a bus to any place in Thailand for a few hundred baht.
The reason your visa hasn't been approved yet could be that, in view of the growing tensions, the consular staff are apparently fully occupied with preparing evacuation plans for Thai citizens and the consulate itself. I can well imagine that ordinary visa applications are simply not a priority.
Expenses are killing you..I thought Cambodia was as cheap as chips. I know it is in HCMC, Vietnam and they are working well, min 5 working days if you don't need to supply additional info.
Also email them and say would you be kind enough to approve ASAP as my visa in Cambodia expires on 11 June. Usually works, send that email now not Monday. GL
This is a very unpopular opinion that no one likes... but I applied in Malaysia and my application took 8 weeks. I was forced to return to Thailand during that time. I was eventually approved (while in Thailand) and then bounced out and in again to activate the DTV. It's 100% against the rules, and it was super risky, but I had no choice and it worked out for me in the end.
3. You can extend a Cambodian tourist visa without leaving the country. I’ve done it myself. I asked my hotel receptionist, and the manager connected me with his friend at a travel agency. I paid $40 for a oneday express service and received a one month extension.
