Hi friends.

Question: When I returned to Bangkok on Feb 21 the immigration office incorrectly gave me a 60 day visa stamp, instead of the normal DTV 180 day stamp. I just realized it now as I was preparing for the 90 day report.

Can an incorrect visa exemption stamp at Chaeng Wattana when the error was the officer's?

Update:

I followed the advice of some of the members in this group, went back to the airport and got the IO to fix the dates.

Then I went to Immigration Division 1 and got the 90 day report done same day.

Everyone was super nice, although you have to be firm but polite. Several times they said I needed to come back tomorrow or go back to the airport. I said, "I was already there, can I get this done today?" with a big smile.

A lot of the comments were very negative, fear mongering, affected my sleep last night. For anyone else coming across this issue, it's a simple procedural fix and it happens often.
Answer summary
The user encountered an issue with an incorrectly issued 60-day visa stamp instead of the expected 180-day DTV visa stamp upon returning to Bangkok. After initially receiving worried responses from the community, the user provided an update confirming that they successfully returned to the airport and had the mistake corrected. They were able to complete their 90-day report on the same day, highlighting that the process can be straightforward if approached politely and firmly. The community discussed the urgency of addressing such issues immediately and checked the immigration stamp upon entry to avoid overstaying.

how do you even get to immigration in the airport as this is normally passport control on entry. I have heard there is a place you can apply for entry permit in airport. Is this the place to go?

This is a routine matter of simple correction at whichever Bangkok airport stamped you in. Ignore the troublemakers and their comments.

Contact a connected Thai agent. They will be able to fix this.

The main issue is that it is your duty to check your passport stamp. So you are in overstay, and you will need to go back to the port of entry to get it fixed but you will need an officer with a really good heart and day to understand your situation.

You do not need an agent. Just travel back to the BKK airport as soon as you can and get the stamp corrected at the airport Immigration. You are technically on an overstay, so in the meantime you must be careful not to run into a police check or raid, or have a road accident. Once the stamp is corrected, the overstay is cleared. I do not reckon that you have to pay an overstay fine because you should have been stamped in for 180 days, but let's see what they say at the airport

Wow. This is one of those situations where it could go really good or really bad.

I dont endorse lying but I would go to immigration ASAP and try to do a 90 day report. When they notice the 60 day stamp I would be "really surprised" and see what they do. Have your DTV with you and tell them you presented everything and they must have stamped it wrong. This way it looks like you are being compliant and they may help you work it out. Worst case they will refer you to the airport or they will ship you out for the overstay. I would think if they push to grab you on overstay you should get into a wai position and totally ask for forgiveness and request to talk to a supervisor if they continue to push. Always bringing a local that speaks the language helps tremendously as they (immigration) will also want to save face especially because you were both wrong.

The other option is go to the airport and ask them to fix the stamp. The issue there is we dont know your prior history so they might just grab you in detention and try and deport you after grabbing the fine. Or they might just say "OH so sorry" and correct it. They could say you should have known sooner.

The last thing you want to do is wait. Because if you get picked up or have any interaction with the police or immigration, they can just arrest you and now you are really behind the 8 ball.

Personally I would try to do the 90 day report first.

Good luck.

That is nerve wracking - your passport technically shows that you are now in overstay status. Did you show them your DTV visa when you entered?

Rich G Wan…you may want to discuss this with a visa agent. As Frank just commented you are now in a less than ideal situation. If you need a referral to a legitimate visa agent then dm me. I know her personally and she co-owns her law firm. Shes helped a number of other clients from all over the world and all over Thailand. Either way, good luck!

there's absolutely NO need to pay for a Thai Visa Agent... that's just someone wanting to take your money.

Go to the airport ASAP...

The Thai Immigration Officers upon looking at your passport will recognize the mistake.

Have a copy of the DTV Visa you RECEIVED from the Thai Embassy or Consulate where you applied.

Do it TODAY.

Congratulations 👏👏👏

PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.

That's what you should do... print it out.

You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.

Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.

An incorrect stamp can usually only be corrected at the port of entry. Now, since you are preparing for a 90 day report on a 60 day stamp, you are in a less than ideal situation. Guys: Always, always check your stamp right away.
