Vientiane- soft power, rejected

I submitted the doc on 12 may

Paid on 13 may

Got interview today

They didnt ask for extra doc

An hour after the interview i got rejection

I applied with a combined bank account- hk and thai bank

The officer mentioned they preferred all funds in one bank account that is not from thailand.

I have sufficient fund throughout my bank account for the last three months and comprehensive gym docs.

So i dont know why they reject me

This is honestly super frustrating.

Questions they ask in the interview:

Why do you have a thai bank account

How do you support yourself?

Why do you choose muay thai and why this gym?

Where do you live in your chosen location?

Did you have a place to stay already?

They also want to see your bank account under your name.

What are my next options?

I am thinking to:

Apply multuple tourist visa and reapply in hanoi again after transferring all funds from my thai bank to my hk bank

Any thoughts?
Summary so far
The user applied for a DTV visa in Vientiane but was rejected shortly after the interview. The rejection was attributed to the combination of funds from a Thai and Hong Kong bank account, which the officer indicated was not preferable. They inquired about how to best proceed, considering applying for a tourist visa and reapplying in Hanoi after transferring funds to the Hong Kong account. This triggered various community responses discussing the importance of having a bank account in the home country and not mentioning the Thai bank account during future applications.

Thai government worries about cyber scam centres kidnapping innocent people which are primarily run by Chinese. Recently Thai police discovered illegal arm trade activities run by Chinese in Pattaya also. It's a real mess. They are not trying to be difficult but to enhance security.

Applied for DTV there too but my experience was rather different. Paid my application on Tuesday and got email with my e visa on Friday. The process was no hassle and extremely fast. Never needed an interview either. I sent 6 months of bank statement showing I have more than 3 times the fund required for the DTV. It sounds overkill but that is what the officials want to see. If your bank statement was not in your sole name or anything irregular like some fund in HK and some fund in thailand, it would cause rejection. Where the bank statement was addressed is important like it has to be your registered address in your home country . I luckily had an agent scrutinised every bit of information on my application and paperwork carefully before I submitted the application. My agent advised me just one little mistake can cause rejection. My agent also wrote a very neat and polite covering letter to support the application. She was so brilliant at it...

Hanoi has a bad reputation: they often ask for many extra documents and there are many refusals.

My friend got his DTV in Vientiane as a remote freelancer. He showed one Bangkok Bank account with many supporting documents. They also asked him how long he had the Bangkok Bank account, why he has it, and where he lives. We got the impression that the case must be very clear and match the DTV purpose perfectly, with a simple and easy-to-check bank situation. In Vientiane they really want to understand the money situation quickly. If something is complicated and they need to spend time figuring it out, they are not interested.

The two bank account combined need to be over 500,000 baht for the whole 3 month period. If the value fell below at any point in time during the 3 months, they will most likely reject you

This forum has endless discussions about the bank account.

It has to be a real bank account in your home country.

There needs to be plenty of money.

It has to be there for long enough.

yes it is. It was a lot more relaxed a few years ago. You could 100% find branches to give you a bank account on tourist visa.

Feel a bit disappointed on you as a hker and how dare you to submit Thai bank in your application. So I can tell that your situation base on your understanding still far away from being accepted. You better do much more research and read more recent news. There are so many Cantonese KOL introduce and explain how to apply DTV.

p.s. I won't say that is hints. But Other than Thai bank, you better more prepare explanation on frequent travel history. Having a Thai bank individuals I won't guess that you are such a NORMAL tourist. You better are. 😒😒 You opened and have a Thai bank account, I would consider you already had quite a long living or frequent travel history in TH. At least embassy staffs will suspect it. Be smart and good luck bro.

do you think that combining the balances from both bank accounts would be enough to show sufficient funds? it may be difficult to calculate it month by month

Anonymous participant 6 months now will not likely get you a DTV Visa for soft power activity.

Other Muay Thai gyms are now recommending 9 months or more

Please Note that it's now recommended by many soft power activity course providers to submit at least 9 months or more of your course with your DTV Visa Application. Reason for that is to avoid getting the SETV single entry tourist visa or METV multiple entry tourist visa issued by the Thai Embassy or Consulate instead of the DTV visa applied for.

Reasoning that with the SETV ( 3 months) or METV (6 months) visa you can complete the course you're applying for vs the DTV visa.

Update on course length of soft power activity...

"Muay Thai DTV Update

I’ve just had a meeting with the Sports Authority of Thailand / Board of Boxing Sport, and there are a few important updates I’d like to share regarding the DTV visa and Muay Thai courses. They informed me that the DTV visa is here to stay, but the requirements for Muay Thai courses will become stricter.

Key points:

Six-month Muay Thai courses may soon no longer be accepted for DTV applications. In some cases, applicants may instead be issued an METV.

Gyms offering DTV courses are now being inspected to ensure they meet the correct standards for accepting foreign students.

New certificates will be issued to approved gyms, and in the future, embassies may request this certificate as part of the DTV application process.

This is a positive step for the industry and should help make the process clearer, more professional, and more reliable for genuine students.

Footnote:

I am not sure exactly how much control the Sports Authority / Board of Boxing Sport has over the final decisions made by individual embassies. However, I personally consider this information reliable enough to act on.

Muay Thai Fever is now preparing for our gym inspection, and we have withdrawn our six-month DTV course. We understand many customers are looking for the most affordable option, and that a nine-month course is more expensive. However, we do not want to see people risk rejection by applying with a course that may no longer meet the expected requirements.

The BIG elephant in the room was your Thai bank account. Since February 2025, new bank rules do not allow tourists to maintain a Thai bank account. You are violating new Thai banking rules and the embassy staff knew it and decided accordingly. Put ALL your money into your Hongkong bank account, wait until the money has settled for THREE months, AND DO NOT MENTION YOUR THAI BANK ACCOUNT (!!) when you apply in Hanoi

Funds in bank account outside of Thailand…. Second don’t make them think to hard… it’s easier for Thais to reject you for anything that doesn’t make sense to them… and they collect a new app fee again. Gotta be squeaky clean… imo.
