New to the group. Considering the DTV. Should I use an agent?
Answer summary
The discussion centers on whether to use an agent for the DTV visa application in Thailand. Opinions vary, with some suggesting that the application process is simple and can be handled independently due to abundant online resources. Others caution against agents, citing potential complications and the necessity of self-preparation. However, several recommend reputable agents for those who prefer assistance or face more complex situations. Ultimately, the decision depends on the applicant's confidence and specific circumstances.

Process is super simple if you're doing a workcation.

If you're doing a soft power then you just need to ensure that the school is credible.

The actual documents that you submit are super easy to put together, assuming you qualify.

All the agent is going to do is tell you what you need to submit and review it. You should be able to do that on your own so fan agent is probably not necessary, but you need to determine your level of confidence and ability.

I would suggest it.. You'll have an approval or disapproval within a week. Plus they KNOW what they're doing, they do it every day, and there is no second guessing on your end. Don't just get ANY agent though, get a highly reputable agent.

Money after old Rope...

All straightforward really...

I'd be questioning whether or not people that can't complete basic forms are ready to move across the world to start a new life...

As they'll be many more serious Challenges/ obstacles to over come then the Basic Visa Application tbh....

Go to DTV visa official website, and check if your case fits all eligibility requirements. If so, just apply online, it's very easy. If you see any issues with your case or required documents, hire an agent.

If you are lazy or illiterate, yes. If not, no. It is a simple procedure.

They'd have to be in your home country now, I believe. At least since the recent changes. Many have decided to leave as a result.

Issa Compass have a 99% success rate with their vetted applications. In the extremely unlikely event of failure you have a choice to request refund of their service fee or to opt for one free resubmission. No reports of Issa Compass ever failing to live up to their promise.

Using an agent is basically overpaying for a little administrative work.

You can apply yourself and use that agent-money on your first stamp-run.

Realistically agents can’t really do much beyond look over your documents.

Before they would routinely suggest that people apply in regional countries like Laos or Vietnam but that’s no longer an option for the vast majority of applicants. Unless an agent has a great understanding of how the Embassy/Consulate works in your home country/country of permanent residence then they’re obligated can’t provide much insight.

DTV process can be really tricky, I've heard applying from home country reduces the chances of issues, definitely worth considering

According to the new rules you can apply only from your home country or country of residence.

Have to do in legal country of residence now so unless there is a local agent you’ll have no luck even finding someone to help locally

You should ask yourself, would an agent have better success than you if you apply yourself? If you want to use an agent ask for their experience and success rate.

Asked and answered a million times.

An agent only slows things down and makes it more complicated for the application... You still have to prepare all the same documents but then explain everything to them as a middle man rather than just uploading them

Did my own retirement visa for 8 years. But sometimes an agent can help navigate certain issues and effectively prepare stories and docs from one Thai speaker to another. Assuming they are competent and fairly priced.

Anyone have any data on average range of fees for retirement or DTV visa support these days?

I used an agent because I had other stuff going on and I wanted a smooth Visa process. Worked out well for me.

I'd suggest only using an agent if your situation is more challenging than average

Why? If you legitimately quality, the process is quick and easy. If you don't, you might want to try getting an agent to fudge it for you, and hope. But if you don't, you're likely looking at the wrong kind of visa. Just do it right. The Thai authorities are clearly getting much tougher.

Tbh an agent isn’t gonna do much more than you can do on your own. I was just approved on Monday after 13 days. Find out what’s needed and put the documents together yourself!

I wouldn't and didn't. There's so much information online that you can work out things yourself. It's not that hard. The application is actually pretty simple. One tip would be to add way more information than you think you need.

@Frazer ***********
Nope, opposite.

Just give the information they need.

Burocracies work very simple: they want to file exactly X pages of paper. Not X + 3.

For example if they want a copy of your arrival card (no longer necessary) and a copy of your entry stamp: put it on two pieces of paper, not on the same one.

Because the first thing any officer is doing is: counting the copies you gave him/her and glancing over them.

One paper to much, one paper to less: and s/he starts investigating.

There is no reason to give copies of 25 bank accounts when they only want to see ONE.

Then you are probably new in those groups here - everyone has problems with agents, especially when they move to a different province, or banking statements get f-a-k-e-d.

Agents should only be used if they genuinely help. As in: all your stuff is correct, but you require help in what ever you are doing.

Otherwise you are dependent on the same agent like forever, pay a fortune every year, and when it is uncovered that it is fraud: everything flies into YOUR face ...

Agents can't help much now given the new requirements. Good thing, to be honest. Some were facilitating fraudulent applications.
