TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion addresses whether a 5-year DTV visa linked to a passport that expires in 3 years will expire with the passport. It is suggested that it is possible to transfer the visa to a new passport after obtaining it, though there may be a fee involved. Community members confirm that transferring the visa at an immigration office is a common practice. Therefore, it might be advantageous to obtain a new passport prior to applying for the visa.

Just like any other Visa ie "O" or "B" for example the visa is transferred from the old to the new passport at an immigration office - done it twice now.

I'm pretty sure you'd be able to granger the old visa to a new passport later, but I'm also pretty sure it won't be for free, so in my opinion, if you can get a new passport before applying, it'd be better.

There has never been a charge for transferring visa from old to new passports in the past.
