My passport got wet and damaged here in Bangkok, Thailand. The embassy said that they can issue me an emergency passport to go back home and renew my passport instead of issuing me a temporary passport to travel further. But, i already have a flight ticket booked to Malaysia. I've already tried contacting AirAsia airlines but it's difficult to reach them and contact with them person to person. So, can i contact Malaysian embassy and check with them if they can help? I also have a soft copy of my passport's bio page before it got damaged.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is facing issues due to a damaged passport while in Bangkok, Thailand, seeking to travel to Malaysia. The embassy suggests issuing an emergency passport for returning home rather than a temporary passport for further travel. Comments advise that contacting the Malaysian embassy is unlikely to help, and suggest that the traveler should consider canceling their flight and returning home to resolve the passport issue.

the embassy can give you 100% accurate info, noone here is an immigration officer.

trying to outdo the govt agencies usually is not very successful in the long run.

You posted on 18th August your damaged passport details and asked for advice and again on 26th you make an appeal. What were you doing till now since then. This should have been your priority rather than going in on a fishing expedition! Just get back home with emergency passport and sort out

How long does it take if the Embassy makes a proper passport for you?
Nanthakumar ***********
@Twiggy *****
if someone is working in Thailand with a work permit then the embassy will issue a new passport and for tourists they do not issue a new passport (and only during covid time they issued a new one as many got stuck )

They will issue a temporary passport which will enable going back to India only!

Also to issue a passport in lieu of an old one ( damaged or expired ) it is 6 weeks if the old passport was issued elsewhere and 10 days if the old passport was issued in thailand . So better go back to India sort out all and then travel

Nanthakumar, thanks for the information. Now I know why farangs never let anyone keep their passports.

, I understand now. Thanks.

Your embassy gives you the answer on what options are and you are trying to get a better answer elsewhere. Good luck as a damaged passport isn't valid in 99% of places .

They can only issue me an emergency passport instead of a temporary passport.

If all your embassy will do is issue an emergency travel document to go home that's what you will have to do. They can reissue a damaged passport but I don't know how long that takes

You have a very hard time changing or getting a refund from Air Asia you’ll need to go home if you don’t have enough time to get a new passport in Thailand

I went swimming with my passport. It was damaged. I used it until it was not valid, several years. Each time they would tell me to replace it but I was getting on the plane. That was a really long time ago. Another time later my passport was just worn out from rough usage and it worked okay. that was maybe twenty years ago. Maybe that wouldn't work now, I don't know

My friends passport got stolen, he had an emergency passport valid for 1 year, he was traveling to Thailand and Brasil without problems

I don't know, if you get in this case a passport as well

You could go to one of the air Asia offices. I know there's one by khaosan rd. and there's other ones too. Talk to a person. Good luck, hope it works out for you

@Carlos ********
You bought ticket of them during covid ? I remember most shops all closed but for sure their office is not there anymore.

Usually an emergency passport is valid f

Cancel your ticket to Malaysia and fly back home to India. Get new passport and come back to Thailand.
Richard *********
nothing the Malaysian embassy can do

Try air asia an cancel or pay for a new date till ur new passport arrives.
Brandon ************
That won't do anything. It's the airline staff and immigration officers that will make the decision. The embassy has nothing to do with it.

Even if you get to Malaysia there's a very good chance you won't be able to return to Thailand as you'll experience the same situation with the airline staff in Malaysia and Thai immigration officers are known for denying a passport with the slightest issue.
