Hello, I've booked an air Asia flight from Bangkok to kuala lumpur. But, my passport has been damaged due to rain water yesterday so would the airlines let me board the flight at the airport?

I've hereby attached the images of my wet and damaged passport.

Please let me know as soon as possible.

Thank you!

P.S. :- I'm in Bangkok right now.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about their ability to board a flight from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur due to a recently damaged passport from rainwater. Many community members have expressed that a damaged passport will likely raise issues with both the airline and immigration. Suggestions include checking with the airline, visiting the immigration office at the airport, and possibly obtaining an emergency passport from their embassy. However, responses also caution against posting personal information online.

Please report it to India Embassy in Bangkok to get a letter or a temporary passport.

They told me that they can only issue me an emergency passport to go back home.

I washed mine ... looks similar. I was able to enter after 2 minutes with a 2nd immigration officer.

do you mean you got to enter Thailand again with a washed away passport?

This is up to airlines to put you on plane. Border patrol will let you out no problem.. as long as you go the…. From Thailand.

Last I was a joke, but kind of real. Good luck
Gordon *******
It all depends on customs but don't show your information on Facebook.
Eduard ****
As long as you can read everything, I think it will be no problem.

my was worse than that, i had to hold it together, they let me leave

Go to the Bangkok Immigration office today, before you go to the airport tomorrow

Lucky you are going to Malaysia not Bali. Bali would 100% not let you in with damage like that to a passport. Google news stories if you don’t believe me.

you can’t google search. Teach a man to fish.
Tiffany **************
My passport had this damage from spilt perfume all of Covid era in Thailand and even now still. For mine it’s on many pages, including the ID page. I did many visas for Thailand and more, and lots of traveling since and it has never been an issue.

You’re probably good

I had a wet passport already. Nobody cared🤷‍♂️
Ally ************
Surely the simple answer is to go to the immigration office that issued the visa/permit and ask them to help you reinstate the stamps in your passport?
Nishant ************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Ally ***********
Would it be fine if i go to the Suvarnabhumi airport to get it stamped?
Ally ************
@Nishant ***********
My understanding is that you MUST return to the office / desk that issued the stamp to request a correction.. but your situation is not error based.. so in the first instance I'd go to my nearest immigration office and explain the problem.. they may be able to help you.. or at least give you the answer you are looking for my friend
Nishant ************

it was issued at don mueang airport

Could be a problem.. just avoid being at edge(this situation shouldnt be suprise to the officers at airport).Visit Immigration and let them know the situation. Probably they are the best ones to minimise and salvage the most out of this situation
Nishant ************

@Nitin ******
how about visiting Malaysian embassy than thai immigration as I'll be going to Malaysia from Thailand?
Nitin *******
@Nishant ***********
Embassy (Malaysia) might ask you to be at best situation(re-apply-print) new passport and then travel. Probably that might not be in your favor. But if it is then this is the best advice.

Not sure if it will help, but if you have a picture or scan of the page before it got damaged, maybe you can contact immigration first to get a new stamp? No idea of it will help, but it might be worth trying

Shafik *********
Go to the airport earlier and visit immigration office. They will issue a pass for you. The most important page is the bio data page,if it's visible no issues. As for the stamps, immigration officers can help you out as it's all electronically documented. Again visit the airport today if possible for your safety as the process takes time.
Nishant ************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Shafik ********
But, would it be possible to travel to Malaysia as I've already booked a non-refundable ticket for Malaysia from Bangkok?
Shafik *********
@Nishant ***********
The ticket is non refundable but still you can change the travel date unless you will be going into overstay
Shafik *********
Visit airline desk at the airport soon as possible,and see what they say. If there not willing then proceed to the immigration office within the airport. There helpful and they will surely help you out
Nishant ************

my thai visa is valid till 30th August
Shafik *********
@Nishant ***********
Try the procedure I told you. Lucky enough you still have until 30th on your visa. Indian embassy in Bangkok they can replace your passport within 5 working days and that is only if immigration office fails to help out,which won't happen.
Nishant ************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Viola *******
i went to the embassy but they said that they wouldn't be able to help me out.
Shafik *********
@Nishant ***********
They can't provide pass out,but they can replace the passport for you. And the replacement normally takes 5 days for passports issued within Bangkok.

Good reason to never carry the original, unless you are visiting immigration or leaving the country. Always carry a color copy. That is all you will ever need.
Riaan **********
@Mark **********
the law says that you need to carry your passport with you at all times
Mark ***********
@Riaan *********
I ignore ignorant laws. Willfully. Never had an issue. Just a couple of days ago had a Thai cop tell me Thai ID is always enough.

Why would anyone risk carrying their original passport? Not happening.
Paul *******
@Mark **********
Yes or if you need to go to the bank or something. Only carry your passport for something of that nature.
Shaine ************
@Paul ******
yes banks need. But bank copy your bio page and ask for signature. CW office is scanning your bio page exactly like smart gates in immigrate check point at the airports. Is it legal? Is it that necessary for a non-Thai disclose their critical info to just a building mgt?
Shaine ************
@Mark **********
do you know that foreigners need to scan their original passport to access Office at CentralWorld Bangkok?
Mark ***********
@Shaine ***********
a good enough reason to never visit their crummy offices. I have a Thai ID and DL. Not good enough? Than I don't need your services.
Shaine ************
@Mark **********
Thais have to scan their ID. Non-Thais have to scan their passport bio page. Who’s idea that? Why do I have to share my passport data to CW building mgt? Even Embassies or Govt Ministries never ask to scan anyone’s passport. I had appointment in that building. I did not carry my passport. Pink card or DL did not accept. So I asked the invitee to meet me at the G floor Starbucks. This is how PDPA practice here!
Mark ***********
@Shaine ***********
exactly. My DL not OK? Fuck em.
Hiroshi ******
Contact embassy first, before I had the same issue. The results was I need to change my passport
Nishant ************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Hiroshi *****
i did and they said that they'd issue me an emergency passport to go back home and then apply for a new passport.
Paul *******
@Nishant ***********
You might need to do that then. If they can't issue a new full length passport in Thailand (a bit strange as most other embassies do) then that's how you do it. You can thus fly to Kuala Lumpur from India.
Nishant ************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Paul ******
they said that they issue passport to the ones who are on residential visa in other countries.
Hiroshi ******
@Nishant ***********
good luck and wish you all the best
Ian *****
Extremely unlikely, airline won't risk you being turned round at final destination and then being fined . Need a new one or emergency travel doc.

Thai immigration are the worst in the world for turning away damaged passports. 1 scratch can ruin an extremely expensive holiday. This will be rejected and you'll begging on street while your embassy processes your new passport at a sluggish speed.

Thats not even remotely true. Bali is the worst in that department.

If you are flying back to India or home country, go to embassy to get emergency doc to fly back,If this is just thailand immigration stamp erased, they might have details in system so you may not have any issues, all depends on immigration officials

India doesn't have a biometric chip in their passports which makes it even more likely you'll have problems.

No

Most immigration websites will tell you that a damaged passport is not admissible

seriously you need to remove your person details that you’ve posted on here, I’m sure 99% of us are all honest but for the sake of 1% do not post such information publicly (even if it is a closed group)

I’m also99% certain no passport control in the UK would accept that passport and I expect other Countries to be the same, would strongly suggest you get it replaced (oh and removed off here 👍🏼)

Best Wishes

1. Why are you showing personal data that can be used negatively, on Facebook?

2. Airlines are the least of your problems, immigration will be the bigger problem as you're flying Internationally
Andrew ***********
I think you might have a problem. They don't not like a damage passport.
