Hi all, after some advice on what to do... My boyfriend is on an ed visa extension which is good until the 21st may, however we got caught in a downpour yesterday and the stamp got soaked! We fly back to the UK on Monday, will it be ok to fly with? Will he be able to get a re-entry permit? Or will he have to get a new stamp or even a new passport? He still has the receipts for the visa and extension.

Thanks in advance for any help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on how to handle a damaged education visa stamp before flying back to the UK. Their boyfriend, currently on an education visa extension, has a stamp that got soaked during a rainstorm. They are concerned if the damaged stamp will be accepted for travel and if a re-entry permit can be issued. Comments include suggestions on getting a new passport to prevent issues and confirm that they were able to obtain a re-entry permit successfully. The discussion also touches on the implications of the damaged stamp for future visa applications.

Accepting a passport for travel is up to the Immigration Officer. I would say get a new passport to avoid that one officer you meet during international travels will say: This is to damaged and I do not except this.

if he's down to 3 pages that would change things, he's going to have to get a new one soon anyway so yes may as well do it now.

Definitely replace it if there are only a few pages left and bring the cancelled passport with you for transfer to the new passport. I had a horrible experience recently with a wet passport on a few pages that I thought would be 'no big deal' but it was a huge problem.

the photo page is fine, it's just a few of the stamp pages that have the blurry ink. He only has 3 pages left though so might be worth it??

He has the reentry permit already. That stamp isn't going to matter beyond his return, they do not go back through every page in your passport judging old stamps for water damage. There is a point at which water damage can be an issue requiring a new passport but that really isn't that bad IMO, I have had a passport worse than that on the visa pages that I continued to use until it was done without issue. That is very slight water damage that could constitute "normal wear and tear".

If the photo page is 100% intact I would not see the need to replace that. Up to you, but a new passport is not free and is not zero hassle either, and you'd also then have to carry both to get back in and then get the stamp transferred.

Ok :) thanks for everything!

Only in Thailand. Extension of Stay and re-entry stamps are from Immigration, not used by Thai Consulates.

In that case, would it be possible to transfer the extension and re-entry stamps while in the UK at the Thai embassy? Or can that only be done whilst in Thailand?

Update! We went to the immigration office and they did issue him a re-entry permit ๐ŸŽ‰ thanks so much for all the help and advice from this group!

my next question is, is it worth him getting a new passport in the UK? Will the blurry stamp cause problems with future extensions, etc?

If he does have to get a new passport, can the stamp be transferred to the new one?
Tod *********
yest he can, extensions of stays CAN be transferred to a new passport at the immigration office

at least he has the receipts to show that he got the extension BUT I'd go to the immigration office BEFORE you're going to fly out and see IF you can get a re-entry permit.

If they will sell you one you're good to go, IF they won't, he'll need a new passport.
