Question from a mate of mine,

He lives up north and will be due his renewal of extension to stay based on marriage in 2 months. His problem is that he is moving to a different province in a few weeks and can't apply for his extension until after he has moved.

So are his only options the following.

1. Make the move then apply in the new province and have to get all the neighbour statements and town leader reference and a the other crap like the first application. (Wouldn't need all that for a renewal in his original village as it's a renewal)

The issue here being he doesn't know anyone or have friendly neighbours or a village leader that he even knows where they live so how does he supply any of that stuff?

Or option 2

He moves province doesn't report that he has moved then goes back up north to do the renewal which is a massive round trip. Then has to do it again to collect it a month later then he does a change of address then he can 90 day report in new place and apply for renewal next year when he has friends and witnesses ?

He called the local immigration in the new province and was told that he would need all the references etc to apply for renewal there and when he said he is only gonna be a new random Farang in the town they said not their problem .

So any suggestions, ideas would be appreciated

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks advice for a friend's situation regarding the renewal of his marriage-based Extension of Stay in Thailand. The friend is moving to a new province before his renewal and is uncertain whether to apply for the extension in the new province, which may require neighbor statements and town leader references, or to return to his original province for the application. Some community comments suggest that neighbor statements should not be necessary for renewals, as the application should be considered a continuation, not a new one. Residents are encouraged to visit the local immigration office after the move to clarify the requirements.

I think he'll be okay and I'd bet there was a "lost in translation" moment with the immigration office. What area is he moving to and what's the immigration office that serves that area there?

people move all the time, and he's not the first foreigner to show up and need an extension.

I'd say, once he moves him and his wife should pay a visit to the immigration office, get the hand out and see what's what. I'm am pretty confident he'll get another yearly extension without too much problems

As far as i know: The neighbor statements and town leader reference is only needed on the first application for Extension of Stay, after that not needed. Changing province does not make this application for Extension of Stay the first one, it will be a consecutively one. So go for option 1 with all needed copies as required by the new Immigration Office. He wlll get a 30 day under consideration stamp where or Immigration or local Police pay a visit to the house to check address and living together.

Unfortunately as I mentioned above he called immigration and was told he needed all neighbour references etc as this is his first application in a new area so the previous one doesn't count 😡
