I will shortly be applying for a 12 month extension of stay linked to my 90 Day Non O Visa based on marriage to a Thai national at Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) Immigration Office. I have had the Thai language documents translated but due to the distance involved, I’d like to try and ‘get it right’ first time but still have questions. Hopefully someone here will have experience of Korat office and will be able to help.

1). 7.1* ‘Certificate of Deposit from a commercial bank operating in Thailand or a specialised financial institution established under specific laws*.’

Hopefully my bank will be used to this but what exactly do they mean? My understanding is that this means a letter confirming that an amount of over 400,000 baht has been in my account for over 2 months prior - correct?

2). 7.2 *‘Copy of bank account statement’*.

I believe that in addition to at least 2 months statement coverage, they might also ask for an updated passbook and an ATM printout and will provide these in any case. They say nothing about the dates of such documents but I’m sure there are specific dates – correct?

Do all of these need to be dated on the date of application? Or can they be the day before with the ATM printout only, dated on the application date? If they all have to be dated on the date of application, that would prevent a morning application.

Korat do not answer their phone so I can’t call them to ask these questions.

Edit: I’m pretty sure I have all the other requirements covered – I just need the financial information thanks.
Summary so far
The post is about a user's upcoming application for a 12-month extension of stay linked to a 90-day Non-O Visa based on marriage to a Thai national in Nakhon Ratchasima. They seek clarification regarding the financial documents needed, specifically a certificate from a Thai bank stating at least 400,000 baht has been in their account for over two months and additional bank statements. The user is particularly concerned about the dates these documents must reflect at the time of application and is looking for insights from those familiar with the Korat Immigration process.

Ian Morrison maybe I have just got an attitude that Immigration like. 10 annual extensions and the only time I have had any issues was when Bangkok (my immigration office is Phetchaburi) required an extra paper on the house ownership. The immigration officer told me that next year I needed this extra document. So I just provide it.

Can you give examples of the changes that happen to you every year?

Not trying to dodge you questions, but in my case, I was able to turn the renewal process over to my wife. She handles it all; assembles the needed docs, pics & print outs. I give her a hug and urger her on. We will soon be celebrating our 20th anniversary and hoping for a bunch more and I have 1 less work load to worry about.

Bill Harrison Most Thai citizens are scared stiff of officials, and don't like asking questions, as that can result in losing face. So well done your wife. I am very impressed.

Ian Morrison When she came to the US on a fiance visa, I put her to work in a resort on the Blue Ridge Pkwy in NC. First, in housekeeping in the AM; then added busing table during lunch rush; added salad lady in PM; became housekeeping supevisor and after 3 yrs, switched from salad lady to waitress. Once trained, 2nd night on her own as a waitress, got home after closing & started pulling $20's out of her pockets & asked "what should I do with this?" - ($260 tip money in 4 hrs); things got even better later. So, yeah; she's a keeper.

Ian Morrison Amen to that Ian. In so many circumstances I've tried to get my wife to stand up for herself and not be scared of officials - waste of time, its been instilled in her since birth. She's regularly shocked that I stand my ground in the face of some official or other that's being deliberately difficult. The more I learn Thai, the more I learn how these officials talk down to 'lower' Thai's.

And a new letter from your Amphur say your still married. Some officers require you to have a witness to go with you . The best way is to go into your IM office and get the paper work form them some require lots of photos in different rooms and outside some only require 2 photos some require hand drawing map others are ok with Google maps .

Does the immigration care about where the 400,000 baht came from? Does it have to be transferred from overseas or not?

1. Letter from your bank stating the account is genuine, it will have your name, your passport number, account number and balance at time of printing.

This can normally be up to 7 days old

2. 3 months of statements showing 400k Baht has been in your account for 2 months. This can normally be up to 7 days old also.

3. On the day of applying update your bank book. The easiest way of doing this is by making a small deposit or withdrawal online then go to the bank and update your book in the machine.

Andy Oswald Thinking about it, if they will accept that only the passbook is updated on the day of the application, I should be able to do it. I didn't know that my passbook could be updated in a machine. I rarely do it but when I have, its always been in branch. Still depends on what they will accept though.
Andy ********

Phil Wilson it is really simple. If you do it wrong the machine tells you. First time I ever did it the security guard showed me. Once you see it once it is obvious.

But you can get it updated at the cashier desk. The important thing is that your passbook is updated on the same day you apply for the extension.

You also need to make 2 copies of everything as you are applying for a marriage extension.

OP
Andy Oswald Yes Andy but what I need to know is if they are still requiring them all to be dated on the date of the application.
Andy ********
Andy ********
Phil Wilson sorry fot the late reply. Your immigration office will require all 3.

Letter

Statement

Updated bank book.

I can say that with a reasonable amount of confidence.

OP
Andy Oswald Right, thanks but I still need to know if Korat will accept just the passbook being updated on the day of application. They use to require the letter being dated on the same date according to a mate but that was a few years ago.

Andy Oswald I know this may seem trivial but this must be a thai bank. That's important. And yes 3 months of statements showing 400k+ in the bank during that duration of time. A bank book showing your transactions is also nice to have handy. Even a print out of your statements with your QR scans etc is very helpful to show you don't just have cash sitting in an account for visa purposes. Anything to show legitimacy of your residency would be helpful.
Andy ********

James Douglas 3 months statement showing 400k for the 2 months prior to the application.

It also myst be a Thai bank.

OP
James Douglas I've had a Thai bank account for many years. The statements aren't a problem and I can easily update the passbook. What I'm asking is if Korat require those and the guarantee letter to be dated on the same day as the application - as they used to do. If, as it seems, just one of those documents needs to be that date, I cannot do a morning application because if I wait for the bank to open I won't get to Korat until around 1pm - my branch doesn't open until 11am. I've had dealings with Korat Immigration before where they've requested additional documents after telling me what was required. If the same thing happens with my extension and I can get the application in during the morning session, there may still be time to get everything done the same day. With an afternoon application - no chance.
Phil ********

OP
Andy Oswald Right, so that would mean that I can't do a morning application.

I'm not sure why you think you need to translate Thai language documents to some other random language to apply for an extension of stay in Thailand?

You need a letter from your bank stating the account is yours, my bank calls it a letter of guarantee, 3 months worth of statements to show the money has been in your account for at least two months before the day you apply for the extension, and you need your bank book updated on the day you go to immigration. The others can normally be up to 7 days old

Thank you for the information - Wannikea above is correct. Quite a lot of the documents that immigration gave us were in Thai only and my wife couldn't explain everything. I have a friend who translates for a living so he translated the Thai only documents so that I could understand them. I had a mate who used to do his extensions at Korat a few years ago and they insisted that everything was dated on the day of the application which can make it a real P I A. There have been a few changes at Korat since then so I'm trying to ask people who've used Korat recently - what they require now.

Phil Wilson Sorry, but strange Phil. I have the yearextension for 9 years now (Okay, it's for retirement) but all forms I get, are in Thai with English 🤷‍♂️. Last year there was also an STM9 form.

Phil Wilson my immigration office (Ratchaburi) also has the marriage visa requirements written in Thai only. That is by design. I used Google Translate to do my translation and it was correct.
