Hello .

Had some great advice back in 2017/18 when I married my Thai wife .

Well , returned to UK for work / life , and got my wife UK citizenship/ passport so she’s now dual national .

Looking to come out to Thailand this / next year on a marriage visa to live

I’ve checked the historic files for this site but it looks like there isn’t a master document regarding marriage visas

So myself UK national 62 , can someone let me know the financials requirements , and the visa renewal process for years ahead . To be honest I’ll take advice as to the entire thing .

I am happy to be tagged in to an earlier post if there is an up to date one present , as currently nothing firmed up my end .

Also it isn’t noted on the extension form but is there now a requirement to have health insurance and if so is there a link to recommended policies ?

You can also consider the Non-O retirement visa. It’s a bit easier to get and doesn’t require your wife to be present, meaning you can do it yourself. It does however require 800,000 baht parked into your Thai bank account. And annual renewals are also easier to get compared to the marriage visa.

A Non-O from an Embassy or Consulate does not need the required funds to be in a Thai bank account

for the first year that’s correct. But annual extensions inside Thailand require it unless of course your embassy will give letters verifying income or balances as far as I know.

what they are saying is that to get the initial 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage or retirement there is no requirement to have proof of funds in a thai bank. <- you can use proof of funds in YOUR country to meet the requirement.

Then come here, open a bank account and get the required amount in so it can season the 2 months before you apply for a yearly extension

retirement visa is worthless if you can’t live in Thailand on it. Of course the goal would be to live in Thailand which is what he stated in his post. I highly doubt someone with a retirement visa just wants it for 1 year. In order to retire here u gonna need it in the future as well

I assume from your post that you were not married in the UK so you have a Thai marriage certificate

The marriage cerificate has to be from Thai. If not, then translated and certified in Thai or any other language. Australia, does not certify overseas marriages, it does recognize them.

This is a general list of what's required to get a year extension of stay based on marriage to a thai national

It is NOT office specific (which is why I said go to your office and get their hand out)

At most offices you can apply for an extension when you have 30 days or less left on your current entry stamp.

It's not difficult if you have marriage certificate with thai citizen. So easy to get NON O thai visa.

What you need to do is get the 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai Thai national from the thai consulate in your country before you come here.

Once you're here get a bank account open in your name only and get 400k baht transferred in.

Let the funds 'season' for the required 2 months then go to the immigration office serving the area where you live/stay and apply for a year extension of stay..

Definitely go to your immigration office and get the hand-out listing the requirements for the year extension based on marriage to a thai. That way you know the copies, documents, photos, etc required at that specific office
