What should expats know about COVID extensions and 90-day reports in Thailand?

A bit of info for anyone getting a COVID extension at CW in the "N" section.

I've gotten several COVID extensions, and each time, the officer would ask if I had done a 90-day report. However, every time (4-5 times) I tried to do a report at MTT AND CW, they would say I cannot do it on a COVID extension. (Even when I tried to insist on doing it for my peace of mind, they absolutely refused at both places).

I would explain this to the officer, and they'd say "okay, no need then" and ask for my TM-30, which I'd provide. No other problems.

Long story shorter:

I got the COVID extension again on August 17th at the N counter and was fined 2,000 baht for having a "late" 90 day report. Despite explaining to the officer that I've tried to do it many times and wasn't allowed to, she did not care, and I had to pass over the money, and she filed the report.

It was all above the table, I received the fine receipt and the report paper with my next due date.

I did hear other officers asking other people about the 90 day report, as well.

So heads up, in case you find yourself in the same situation!

(On another note, I was stamped for the full 60 days with no consideration period)!

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat shared their experience obtaining a COVID extension at Immigration in Thailand, highlighting issues with filing a 90-day report while on a COVID extension. Despite multiple attempts to inform the officials about not being able to file the report, they were fined for a late submission. The post suggests there may be confusion among officials about the requirements during this transition period, as well as sharing insights about the TM-30 document that property owners must submit.

That fine seems high. I hadn't filed it at all, then did the Tm47 then the TM30, they fined me around 800 baht IIRC at MTT then I took that with me to file for a Cov19 extension. The 2000 baht is generally for the landlord. They lower the fine for individuals. But every situation is different and so is every officer.

The 90 day report fine is always been 2K THB. The 800THB fine is for not filing a TM30.

I think you and many other people are going to get caught in the middle of a policy switch from it not being required to it being required, and no real way to come into compliance after the change other than paying the fine.

On the plus side, immigration at CW seems to be filing a new 90 day report with almost every extension now, so you may never have to go to MTT. I think they're trying to lower the number of visits to immigration during Covid by doing that.

I think you're exactly right. They've now decided that it's required, so a lot of people are being/will be penalized for not doing it when it wasn't required. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

It was quite efficient being able to file the report and get the extension all at the same moment, so I can appreciate that! Just wish there was some sort of grace period during this seemingly unannounced policy change!

What is a TM-30 Please?

A TM30 is a document that the property owner submits to the Thai immigration office that gives the immigration office information about the foreigner. It must be filed no later then 1 business day after the foreigner starts staying in a location (AT SOME IMMIGRATION OFFICE).

You can find a good (slightly outdated) FAQ at

And a movie the Thai Government made about why the TM30 is important, in Thai, subbed in English.

For Bangkok Immigration, the counter that does the 90 day reports is Counter A at Muang Thong Thani. The counter that does visas for people who are teachers are Counter N.

I'm surprised that Counter A would have rejected your request to submit a 90 day report ๐Ÿ™

I was also surprised. I tried several times at both offices and was consistently told I cannot do a 90 day report while I'm on the covid extension ๐Ÿ˜•

It seems that currently the officers at Counter N are processing the reports for people getting a COVID extension there. I saw several (confused-looking) people running down to the ATM while I was there.

I have to go to Counter N, because I had a non-B for teaching last year, so they don't accept me at MTT
