What should I know about the new requirements for Covid extensions at the immigration office in Thailand?

My wife and I are currently at the immigration office in Phuket City.

Guess what? They’ve added yet another form to the process that’s not on the website. This needs to be filled out by either your hotel or landlord for a Covid extension. 🤦🏻‍♂️

We live in a condo building that doesn’t open till 10 so we sit and wait.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user and their wife encountered unexpected new requirements at the Phuket City immigration office while seeking a Covid extension; specifically, they needed a form filled out by their hotel or landlord, which was not listed on the official website. Comments mentioned that the TM30 form has been a requirement since 2019, providing various experiences from expats regarding its filing consistency across different regions in Thailand. Additional comments addressed the costs of the Covid extension and the ongoing situation until May 26.

With all due respect, if you are on your 5th covid extension you should have filed a TM30 a very long time ago and been doing 90 day reports etc.

Lucky you could get it sorted tho

Thankfully, when you now travel around Thailand you do not have to file your tm30 again when you return to your normal residence.

the rules changed a few months ago so that even if you stayed at a hotel which should file tm30 for you there is no need to refike at your local immigration when you get home. I have read this and ut has been confirmed by my local immigration. That doesn't mean that all offices will do the same. If you Google tm30 you will probably find this information.

I am not disagreeing with you, but I extended when out of Bangkok, and Bangkok immigration made me renew my TM30 when I attempted to extend again In Bangkok

@James *******
that is somewhat different to just staying away for a few days. A while ago I extended in Bangkok and my local io made me file tm30 again. Recently I did the same and they did not require tm30.

yes and no. I was away from Bangkok for a long weekend and thought to extend at a quieter immigration office. Anyhow have figured out long ago that Land of Smiles doesn't apply at the immigration office

…. What do you mean?

@Brian *********
I mean if you have filed tm30 at your local immigration office where you normally reside there is no requirement to refile when you travel around the Kingdom and return home. If you leave the country then you do need to refile. Any hotel or resort you stay at should file tm30 for you but it is never clear whether they do or not.

@Nick ***********
this depends on your office. Some require it every time you leave and some don't.

@Brandon ***********
that may well be true as it is for so many other things. It doesn't change the fact that official tm30 rules have been relaxed.

Nick Cartwright. Unfortunately it doesn't change the fact that some offices will still fine you (not the landlord) if a TM30 hasn't been filed after you return to your home province. Although it's easy enough to do using the app. I did it last week. It took almost a minute out of my day!

How much is the covid extension?

@Steven *****
1,900 baht

…. This is our 5th Covid extension and it was never asked for before.

@Brian *********
You were just lucky before I guess and the more extensions you get from same office the more likely they will ask. Search "TM30 covid extensions" in group and you will see they been asking at most offices since last year
Darren *******
@Brian *********
just because it wasn't asked for doesn't mean it's new

@Dar***
… it was never part of it and the sign they have on the window is new. At least here in Phuket City.

Also be aware you can get fined if a TM30 has not been filled in by your landlord. Logically the landlord should be fined but TIT its usually the farang gets fined.
