Hello everyone, I have a question regarding the covid extension. I'm unsure what reason to give on why I want the extension, specifically on the STM2 form and the "Affidavit for granting permission to temporarily stay in the kingdom during the pandemic situation of covid-19" form. Can anyone share their experience what has worked for them in the past? I came here on a tourist visa. Thank you!:-)

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat in Thailand is seeking advice on what reasons to provide on their STM2 form for a COVID-19 extension. They initially considered citing safety concerns for returning to their home country but realized the situation had improved. Community responses suggest various acceptable reasons, such as the embassy not issuing necessary letters or being unable to obtain a flight home.

Thank you everyone:-) The covid situation in my home country (Germany) is actually getting a lot better right now so I don't think I can go with "unsafe to fly back" or "ongoing pandemic situation" so I will go with "embassy does not issue the letter". However what would you suggest I write down as a reason? Is "tourism" going to okay or should I nevertheless write down something in regard to covid?

For the TM7, write "COVID-19". If you write "Tourism", you may be granted a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism, which is not what you want.

For the "Affidavit for Granting Permission to Temporarily Stay in the Kingdom during the Pandemic Situation of COVID-19. " check the box saying ""The consulate/ embassy is unable to issue the letter of confirmation for the request for a temporary of stay", with a screenshot from your embassy website (translated in Google Translate) saying they do not offer those letters.

FOR BANGKOK PEOPLE ONLY! There are three forms you need to get a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19:

STM2 Overstay Form: This form is in Thai and English. It says that you agree to meet the requirements for the new extension of stay, and to maintain those requirements. See

Affidavit for Granting Permission to Temporarily Stay in the Kingdom during the Pandemic Situation of COVID-19. This form gives four checkboxes that you can potentially tick:

-"I am not permitted to enter the destination country or the pandemic situation is still ongoing". BRING PROOF that the borders to your country are closed (ask your embassy!).

- "The consulate/ embassy is unable to issue the letter of confirmation for the request for a temporary of stay". This is what MOST people should check. IF your consulate gives an e-mail saying you can not issue these letters, OR you can find it on your consulates' website saying they don't issue the letters, use that as proof. I KNOW for a fact that America and UK's consulate's have that wording there.

- "No return flight or airline available". BRING PROOF that you can not return.

- "Others". TALK To your immigration office or consulate what they expect. This will be used in VERY UNUSUAL circumstances only

These forms are valid for BANGKOK only. PRINT them out on double sided paper. Other offices may want their own special forms.

It depends on your nationality and your immigration office. It’s safest just to tick the box “ embassy not issuing letters”
