What are acceptable reasons for applying for a 60-day COVID extension in Thailand?

Hello everyone.

I will be applying for my 60-day covid extension tomorrow. I have already been granted a 30-day extension. I arrived on a visa exemption.

My question is what did you guys give as a reason for staying longer. People I know more or less lied and said their borders are closed but I would prefer to not bullshit them. Does anyone know what are acceptable reasons apart from not being able to enter your home country? I have not been able to find any information about this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Jonas

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses applying for a 60-day COVID extension from a visa exemption in Thailand after already receiving a 30-day extension. The user, Jonas, seeks guidance on acceptable reasons for the extension aside from not being able to return to their home country. Comments suggest selecting from multiple options on a form, such as being unable to enter the destination country or not having support from the embassy regarding a temporary stay.

I picked the embassy option - was all fine.

you’re possibly referring to the amnesty that happened early on in the covid saga. That stopped ages ago and was replaced by the covid extension. As stated all extensions are 1,900 baht.

tthats for 60 days is it

@Andreas *********
yes. Normally 60 days, but there’s been some posts here saying the officer processing theirs gave them less. I guess it’s up to the IO to decide.

One of the forms you fill out is the “I don’t want to leave due to covid form”. No idea of it’s official title or number or even if it has one. On there there are three choices as to why. Pick one. Can’t recall exactly but basically 1. I am not permitted to enter the destination country. 2. My embassy won’t issue a letter to request a temporary stay or 3. No return flight available.

3 is probably no longer valid but number 2 is true for most embassies.

I'm quite sure there was one or two other options. I can't recall the exact wording but there was one we checked off more generic in relation to Covid.

Just tick one, they don't care. It's a formality. If they want you out, they'll send you packing regardless. I think you'll have no issues mate.

Thank you,, Stuart. What exactly does that mean "My embassy won’t issue a letter to request a temporary stay" As in I asked my embassy if I could stay longer and have not heard back from them...?

Was just at immigration today and was denied the 60 day extension. They denied me any form of extension. Said borders are open now and I have no reason not to fly. What a bummer. You guys have any immigration offices you could recommend. I went to the phan nga town one.

did you apply officially (paying the 1900THB etc.), or did they tell you they won't give it to you before you even applied?

I had not paid the 1900 yet. They told me before I had paid that they are no longer issuing the 60 day extension as all borders are open now.

I see. If it helps, I just managed to get the extension without problems at the Bangkok Immigration Office in Chaeng Wattana.

I entered on visa exemption and received the standard 30 day extension.

when Covid extension first started you had to get a letter from your embassy saying you were unable to travel home. Most embassies stopped issueing these letters a long time ago and just put a notice on their website saying they will no longer issue them.

So you're basically saying you cannot get one of these letters from you embassy by checking that box.

ah ok. that makes a lot more sense to me now. Thank you for clearing that up!

You can find the spot on the embassy website that says something like "we don't issue letters saying...." and bring a printed out screenshot of that. Not sure if it's really necessary, but someone advised me to do that and it worked for me.
