TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain an Income Affidavit at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, you should prepare the following: 1. An appointment confirmation (booked online). 2. Your passport. 3. The completed affidavit form (downloadable from the embassy's website). 4. Payment of $50 (can be paid in Thai Baht). It's advisable to bring a minimum of items to comply with strict security measures at the embassy, and consider having a friend accompany you to hold onto your personal items while you manage the paperwork.

You MUST make an appointment online ahead of time. Fee can also be charged to a credit card. Laptops not allowed even for storage in the lobby. Like someone said, best to just take passport, affidavit, money, and patience.

you can pay by c/c but you cannot pay by using a thai debit card from a bank here (except bangkok bank).

Other tips about going to the U. S. Embassy Consular Services / Notary Services in Bkk on Wireless Road...

Security is tight. Recommended that not to take but minimum items, passport, money for the fee, the prefilled in form in a clear folder and your phone if you must. The security personnel will take your items not needed for the Affidavit - put them in a plastic bag - tag them and give you a number card. I'm not sure they will even let things like backpacks in the door (bomb threats, etc.)

But there is an easy way to travel about having the things you want or need with you. Take a taxi or the Skytrain BTS (BTS station not far away). There is a fairly large office/business building across the street. There is a bank for ATMs, restaurants, restrooms, etc. Suggestion: Go with a friend - have them keep your excess stuff while they sit in air con at the coffee shop just inside the door. There is a parking garage - fee charged. Out on the sidewalk there is a pedestrian crossover / walkway bridge to the Embassy building you need to go to. I found this a way to take away any stress of moving about a big city - getting there on time, etc. Go early - be organized and comfortable Even go have a meal before or after.

you can meet the financial requirements three ways

800K baht banked the requisite time in a thai bank account in your name

notarized affidavit of income from abroad from your consulate stating you get 65K baht a month in income

combination of banked money and the income affidavit tht totals 800K baht for the year

I haven't held a bank account in this country for years and years and have only used the income letter from the US consulate for all 9 of my retirement extensions

If you're applying for the 90 day Non-Immigrant Type O visa and then going to get a yearly extension of stay after that using the income affidavit what some offices will do is have you copy the income affidavit and then stamp the copy stating you gave the original for the Non-O and you can use the copy for the yearly extension in another couple months.

This stops you from needing to get two notary letters from your consulate

When you go the U. S. Embassy on your online preset appointment date/time. Here are some suggestions: You can download the form (fill it in prior), the monthly income you declare (from outside Thailand) is in USD. I recommend that you carefully calculate your monthly income that needs to be equivalent to Thai Baht 65,000 using a reliable up to date online Exchange Rate such as daytodaydata.net) which is used by some Immigration Offices to verify the amount. Note: for general consumption the Krabi Imm office insists that the amount is 75K baht. I had to print out the Imm Police Order - lay it on the desk to get the I/O off that insistance. Other offices may try this - so be aware.

The thing is, the real exchange rare was about 31.5 or something, so remember they use a lower amount than the dollar really trades for :(

I recall the days when it hovered around 40+, doubt that will ever happen again....

Yes - it is Falling - I remember 2 years ago nearly 36 - tears are falling

this week when I went for my extension The officer used 30 to 1 as the exchange rate when she calculated the dollar to baht. :O

yep you can use it to get the initial 90 day Non-O visa inside the country, for your first extension of stay and for ever extension after that.

Just reading the Income Affidavit from the U.S. embassy. The letter states “renewal”...can this affidavit be used the first time you are applying for a Thai Retirement visa?

Okay, thx everyone 😊

Look up the procedure on the embassy website. In ChiangMai they are very strict about making appointments, and you have to apply online for the appointment.

$50 can be paid in thai baht currency. I obtained this document a month ago and paying in THB was no problem.
David **********
And I think that $50 needs to be US currency, is that right?
Adam ********
None. Just make an appointment for document notarization online and print your appointment confirmation paper. Bring your passport and pay $50.

Your passport and $50. An American notarization only certifies that the signatory proved his or her identity to the notary and that the notary was satisfied that the signatory understood the affidavit or document being signed. The truth of the contents of the affidavit is based on the oath contained in the affidavit to which the affiant affirms. The notary does not verify the accuracy or truth of the contents.
