What is the TM30 accommodation registration and how long does it need to be for visa purposes in Thailand?

Thanks for previous advice. The information provided is falling into place. Please can I ask others about the TM30 (?), the accommodation registration required by the bank; my husband and I plan to arrive in January and stay in a hotel for maybe 1 week initially to start the visa extension process. Does that accommodation registration have to be for a period of time or can it be for that 1-2 weeks? Why does that registration need to prove?
Also sorry, we might go via an agent once there. Is there an area where agents are more likely situated? Like in the old days Koh San Rd was where you knew you could go and book flights and trips. Or can someone recommend one please. Thank you everyone.

I have changed my home address several times with Krungsri Bank, they cut down a Tree and get through Three Ball Point Pens, bitt of a faff but it is OK. Bangkok Bank you are tied to the Branch you opened your account, which may incur travel to sort things out.

Any Hotel should be fine and they will print you off a copy of the TM30 they have registered in your names.

Keep in mind, wherever you open a bank account, it is most likely where you will need to go if there is ever a problem. For example, if you opt for a bank in Pattaya, but then settle in Hua Hin.
