TLDR : Answer Summary
The residence certificate issued by Thai Immigration typically lasts for 30 days from the date it is written. Its validity is subject to your entry stamp, so it could be shorter depending on that. The certificate is one-time use only, meaning if you need it for multiple purposes (like opening a bank account or obtaining a driving license), you will likely need to obtain separate copies for each purpose within the valid time frame.

30 days and one time use only, if you need to carry out various things, for example, open a bank account, you need an original, driving licence you need an original, you can’t use photo copies , you basically need a new up to date RC for most things legal

Where I live they accept copy of both resident certificate and health certificate for driving license. And same with transfer of vehicles.

, In Chiang Mai, and it could very well be completely different in other provinces, I’ve been required to have an original RC be it for Immigration, when I opened my bank account (they kept the original) and for DLT to obtain a driving licence, just check John with your local offices first, that’s all I would say mate 👍

Hi Mark. So, if for example I needed to get a residency certificate for a driving licence let's say and I get one for that purpose and then 3 months later I want to buy a new motorcycle, can I get another residency certificate to enable that? Cheers.

you can do car and motorbike at the same time, providing you have your home country licence showing you are already qualified for both, if you have an IDP, then you are not required to carry out a practical test, just show you’re not colour blind when it comes to traffic lights 😉 if you don’t have a licence to ride a motorbike on your current home licence, and you do buy a motorcycle then you will need to carry out a practical and computer/video based exam

It was the comment " 30 days and one use only" that confuses me. Does that mean I can get a Residency Certificate only once and that I must use that for all the things it is likely to be needed for in that 30 days? Cheers.

it means you have to get a separate original RC for everything. It is made for a single purpose, and can only be used for that. You cannot use the same one for different things. You can however get and use just one if you for example are applying for both motorbike and car license at the same time in the same office.

suggest you check with DLT office you applying at if the purpose of RC is for your driving licence.

Because there seem to be different information provided by different individual.

i dont think so my licence did not require original copy , a photocopy would suffice.

30 days or however long your entry stamp is valid until. Whichever is the shorter.

In general, the Immigration issued ones are 30 days from the day they write it, which may not be the day you receive it. It will explicitly state it on it.
