What is the timeline for 90-day reporting in Thailand after receiving a Non-O visa?

90 day reporting confusion.

I always thought the 90 day reporting is not linked to the visa dates, just entry I to the country.

I entered Thailand on the 29 Aug. on a 60 free stamp. Then applied for a initial Non-O visa valid to the 8 Jan 2025.

I just now went to Chiang Mai immigration drive through at the airport office to do my 90 day reporting.

The officer looked at my Non-O visa and told me; no need to do 90 day reporting. Do it next time.

Asking, next time from what date? He just shrugged and told me, no need to do it now.

Does not make sense. I think I go back next week and maybe there is another officer…

Anyone got the same experience or any advice?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user sought clarification on the 90-day reporting requirement for foreigners in Thailand, particularly concerning their entry on a 60-day free stamp and subsequent Non-O visa application. They were informed by immigration officials that no reporting was required yet and expressed confusion about the timing of future reports. Comments indicated that the 90-day reporting starts only after obtaining a year extension of the Non-O visa, not from the date of entry or initial visa application.

You don't need to make a report yet, you do it when you get a year extension

you got your wires crossed a bit

free stamp entry never does 90 day reporting (and those days don't count toward you having to file a 90 day report if you change to a different visa)

Initial 90 day Non-O visa doesn't do 90 day reporting either <- because ON that visa you can't be in the country long enough to have to file a 90 day report

Your FIRST 90 day report will be due 90 days from the date you get your year extension issued.

Doesn't make any sense going back next week you haven't been here 90 days on the same visa/extension type to make you have to file

As I said, you don't have a report due until 90 days AFTER the date you apply for the year extension, that's when the first one will be due

@Othmar ***
it is a common mix up, no worries, when you go apply for the year extension ASK the officer when your first 90 day report will be due.

In Bangkok (and other offices) they put a small paper in your passport with the due date on it when you get the first extension

in Chiang Mai they put the paper in your passport as well
