90 day reporting confusion.
I always thought the 90 day reporting is not linked to the visa dates, just entry I to the country.
I entered Thailand on the 29 Aug. on a 60 free stamp. Then applied for a initial Non-O visa valid to the 8 Jan 2025.
I just now went to Chiang Mai immigration drive through at the airport office to do my 90 day reporting.
The officer looked at my Non-O visa and told me; no need to do 90 day reporting. Do it next time.
Asking, next time from what date? He just shrugged and told me, no need to do it now.
Does not make sense. I think I go back next week and maybe there is another officer…
Anyone got the same experience or any advice?
TLDR : Answer Summary
The confusion regarding 90-day reporting arises from the entry type and visa status. Entry on a 60-day free stamp does not require 90-day reporting, nor does the initial Non-O visa if the holder won't stay long enough to be subject to the requirement. The first 90-day report will be due 90 days after securing a year extension on the visa, which is when the reporting obligation officially begins.
