TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a Non-O visa when married to a Thai citizen, you typically need to apply through an embassy or consulate outside of Thailand. Gather necessary documents including your marriage certificate, proof of income (THB 40,000 monthly or THB 400,000 in savings), your passport, and possibly your spouse's Thai ID. You can begin the process while still in your home country by applying online. Once in Thailand, you can also visit local immigration for further assistance and apply for a one-year extension of stay as a spouse.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

Get all your paper scanned and signed along with your partner's paperwork. Apply outside of the country. Upload all your docs through Thaievisa website (this includes your stamp entering whatever country you choose to apply from, hotel booking and transportation tickets), pay the embassy in person then wait. I went to Laos and I got the visa in less than 2 business days. Visa fee 2000 THB. Pretty quick despite the fact that you have to go to pay in person.

If you are still in your home country, apply on the Thai E-visa website, for the initial Non O before coming to Thailand, when in Thailand you should be able to open a bank account to deposit the financial requirement, and visit your local immigration office, and get a list of requirements for the 12 month extension.

he asked how to get a Non O visa, so I briefly explained, if he is already in Thailand, he needs to make enquiries at his local immigration office, if he can get the initial in the country Non O, if not he will need to leave Thailand, and visit a Thai embassy/consulate in a neighbouring country.

I assume you are already in Thailand on a tourist visa? Non O visa is first step, but must apply outside Thailand.

If so, apply for 1 year extension of stay (marriage visa).

Documents needed;

Marriage certificate , must be legalized.

Thailand ID (spouse)

Passport with minimum 6 months validity.

Copy of Tabien baan (house registration)

Marriage registration certificate if married in Thailand, Kor ror 3 and Kor ror 2

Proof of income THB400k or THB40k income

Visa application from Thai embassy/consulate website

Visa fee around $100.

Marry first. Visa after. I do not recommend to marry Thai people and to obtain this type of visa. Seriously.

I am married with Thai 8 years. It is a sponsor visa and every year we have same procedure to confirm incomes and real co-living. To be honest even Thailand Elite visa is much better and cheaper for foreigners below 50 y.o.

“it is a sponsor visa?” Are you indicating that your marriage is only for the visa?

Nope. But it is fact for me even to open new SCB bank account I n red to invite my wife to approve. I do not think that is normal. No rights at all.

I will be marrying a Thai woman in a few months, but I’m already here on a retirement visa. I have been wondering if there’s any benefit “for me” to renew as a O for Marriage after marriage. The only thing I see is it lowers the financial income requirement but I’m not really worried about that.

Keep your retirement visa. The best. Yes you can be married but if you do not plan to work (Non-O marriage + work permit) it is better to stay independent. Not necessary to divorce to out foreign husband. It is enough not to visit Immugration together with husband: no wife - no visa.

Yes, I carry medical insurance anyway, but, the only thing that may be of benefit would be the work permit, not that I plan on actually working but I have considered starting a small business for my Thai family, (wife and two children, now 15 and 17) so they can earn a living and learn about running a business. I would only be in an advisory role but in Thailand under the Retirement Visa, even that is actually illegal.

If you really think about to start a business maybe your next step should be PR. ( Permanent Resident). Good luck. 🙏

surely you married for love. And because it maybe different to what other countries do doesn't make it wrong or not normal. As for rights well in pretty much every society at the end of the day the "Wife" wears the trousers and the husband gets what she allows him to have........555

฿5000-฿9000 for an agent to do the initial 90 day Non O and 12 month extension?? It's more like upwards of ฿25k, if you have your own finances it's cheaper, but like you say, 500k will cover the whole process doing everything yourself.

can only use the ฿40k monthly method, for the 2nd year extension, and I have heard some immigration offices, won't accept it at all. for the first year you need the ฿400k deposited in a Thai bank, in your name only, if arriving on a 90 day Non O visa.

I do this 5 years. Yes, you are right. First few years I had 1-year Non-O with multi-reentry from Savannaket, Laos (visa-run every 90 days).
