What is the process for canceling Non B visas in Thailand, and should I hire an agent for this?

Hi guys, I will be changing employers soon in Bangkok and my current HR has advised that my family and myself need to go to Chaengwattana immigration in person to cancel our Non B's. They will provide all the documents to do so...

My question is, has anyone got any personal experience in doing this? How difficult is the process ( I know I probably can't get an exact answer to this question).

Lastly, would it be better to let an agent do this, as it means my son will miss a day of school (he won't be complaining though hah) and I really dislike going to this place in general! Any recommendations for a visa agent if this is a better route to take?

Any decent advice would be appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of canceling a Non B visa at Chaengwattana immigration generally involves both the visa and work permit cancellation. Your current HR will assist with the necessary documents. It's beneficial to avoid leaving Thailand on the cancellation day. You may also consider hiring a visa agent to ease the process, especially if it conflicts with your child's schooling.

You will also need to cancel your work permit. You can do it all in advance with a letter from your employer otherwise you need to all leave Thailand on the day of cancellation. If you are able to work things between your old and new employer (they need to collaborate) it should be possible to cancel your existing extension of stay and immediately apply for a new extension of stay with your new employer

Also, if your last extension on the non B was to support Thai wife, you can stay until the stamped date.Sounds like this isn’t the case though…

I’m originally on a Non B but extended for Thai family. It is 100 possible, though I don’t the OP did the same.

@Derek ****
that's not a reason for an extension of a Non-B

Thanks for your comment. Yeah they have worked together before so they are collaborating together so that’s all good.

I’m actually a little confused though now, do we need to go to immigration to cancel our visas AND my work permit or just the former?
Derek *****
but they can apply for a 7 day extension so that they don’t have leave the country the very same day

@Derek ****
they can apply for an extension they won't get and "might" be given 7 days to leave. There's no guarantee

to cancel your extension of stay you need to show documents that you have cancelled your work permit

Yeah I’m going to collect those documents from 1st October and then I need to cancel my visa or work permit (still not sure!) on the 14th…

you need to cancel both and if you can't immediately switch to another extension of stay you're all going to have to leave
