Hi

I'm on a 90 day Non-B teaching visa which expires in September. So, I got a new job and am changing schools.

The previous school says usually I dont have to cancel my Non-B since they were in the beginning stages of applying for a work pernit so no paperwork was submitted but the new school says I have to cancel my current Non-B and do a visa run for a tourist visa and apply for ny Non-B later down the line.

One of the school's suggests checking with Immi but since I'm on a budget I can't afford to drive to Immigration to ask a question.

Any advice, please and thank youšŸ˜Š

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is currently on a 90-day Non-B teaching visa that expires in September and is changing schools. The previous school indicated it wasn't necessary to cancel the Non-B, but the new school insisted on cancellation and applying for a tourist visa first before reapplying for a Non-B. Comments suggest that if the Non-B visa has the original school's name, it cannot be used for a new employer. It is recommended to seek a new Non-B visa from a Thai consulate or reapply through immigration, but this may be challenging for those on a budget.

This will be a problem. if you do not have the budget to visit the immigration office in Chang Mai, a few days travel to a Thai Consulate or Embassy will be out of the question anyway.

@Amaƫl *****
the O/P is only wanting to bounce out and back in to get on a 30 day visa exempt entry so they can apply for an in country for a 90 day non-B..

Not that many places tell people to do it but some do :)

you can bounce out and back in at the Mae Sai - Tachiliek border with burma for 500baht to get a 30 day visa exempt entry and then you can apply for the Non-B visa at the immigration office after that

@Amaƫl *****
you do NOT need a visa for burma to bounce out and back in at a border.

Kylie Samuels Myanmar e-visa is 50 USD, and the only Thai consulate in Myanmar is Yangon, so nowhere near the border.

You probably mean "visa exempt stamp" and not tourist visa though.

Robert Lagas the school suggested to do a visa run for a tourist visa then apply for a new Non-B. There's a bus for 990baht that goes to Myanmar and back. I just did a Laos visa run not too long ago so I know its expensive. They also suggested that because I applied at that Consulate for my current Non-B that I go somewhere else to be on the safe side.

Kylie Samuels Visa to Laos 1.500 Thb, Thai Visa 2.000 Thb, hotel overnight stay, travel from Chang Mai to Vientiane and back. But you do this all for 1.000 Thb, good luck.

it'll cost me 500baht to travel to Immigration and 1000baht for a visa run. I'm biting the bullet and inquiring at Immi today. Gonna have to incur the cost for piece of mind and clarity

Okay, IF your existing Non-B visa has the name of the original school written on the visa you CANNOT use it for another school. Period end of story. You would have to either leave the country, come back and have the new school apply for a 90 day Non-B visa from the immigration office OR you would have to go to a thai consulate in another country and get a new Non-B visa from them.

Look on the visa and see if there is any writing in thai on it.

These are examples of company specific Non-B visas issued from the thai immigration office inside thailand and gotten from a thai consulate outside of thailand. These cannot be changed to a new company, you need to get a new visa.
