Little bit of clarity please.

Got my NON-O on Aug 16 2023 says valid till 13 November 2023.

Correct me if im wrong please: I need to apply for the 1 year NON-O within this 3 month period(before 13th November)?

Is a week before the expiry date long enough?

Its done at Chaeng Wattana?

What documents/ other do i need to submit?

( I have the 400k in the bank, untouched)

Thank you again in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
You must apply for the 1-year NON-O extension before your current visa's stay permit expires on November 13, 2023. You can apply up to 30 days in advance or 45 days if you are in specific locations like Bangkok. It's best to visit Chaeng Wattana a few days prior to your application to inquire about the latest document requirements, as they can vary. Ensure you have your TM30 registration and a 12-month bank statement ready, along with your other documents, to avoid any delays in the processing.

You can submit the application up to 30 days before the expiry of your current stay permit

“before the expiry of the stay permit”. . is this understood? NOT before the visa expires, this is something else!

In Bangkok, Korat and Chiang Mai it up from 45 days before

Please do not confuse it: the duration of the visa validity is NOT the same as the duration of the “admitted stay permit” granted

You should already be registered with TM30, otherwise you will not be served at immigration!

I would visit Immigration as early as possible because should Immigration request additional documents and other evidence because something has changed again, or new documents are required, you may be under time pressure

Example: the recently required 12-month statement from the bank regarding the 400.000.- THB or 800,000.- THB balance for Expats using the "family" or “retirement" extension

Some bank branches issue the “bank letter of guarantee” immediately for a period of 2 months, but many require up to 10 days for a 12-month statement, be warned of the time delay.

For the duration of the next extension, it doesn't matter when you submit the application - the new one-year extension will always count from the day your current stay permit expires.

For example, my EOS has expired on the same day for 16 years - always on January 4th.

Some immigration offices make the mistake of starting to count from the following day, which causes the date for applicants to move forward by one day every other year.

Whether the new “Extension of Stay based on family or retirement” is stamped and given to you immediately, or can only be picked up a few days later, depends on the specific immigration.

At the immigration I use, the process takes around 20 to 25 minutes (!) and I don’t have a single pre-filled form on me when I enter the office.

During this time they manage

*** to issue the 1-year extension

*** to stamp a re-entry permit

*** to take note of the 90 day report and attach a new 90 day report date to my passport

An Extension of Stay “on the basis of being married to a Thai” is generally NOT issued immediately.

You will get a stamp saying that the application is for “4 weeks under consideration” (subject to review) and the date stamped on it when you can pick up the passport with the new extension four weeks later

If you apply early (within the 30 days) the time is added to your extension period, so you might as well apply as early as it is convenient for or you. Just in case you need to get any extra information for immigration.

if you entered Thailand with a Non-Imm-O visa, don't confuse the duration of the validity of the visa with the duration of the stay permit you received. That's a common mistake people make. Check your entry stamp, it shows the date when the stay permit expires. On most immigrations you can apply to the 1-year extension out of a Non-Imm-O visa (regardless the reason it was issued for) as soon as 30 days are left until the expiry of the stay permit. In Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Korat, you can go 45 days earlier. . . . In case you received the 90-days Non-Imm-O visa by "change of visa type" inside Thailand, refer to what

What you will apply for is a 12 month extension of stay based on your already used Non-O visa. Not a 12 month Non-O visa
Kool *******
Umm, under which category of type O extension do you have, marriage, retirement, dependant, which?
Nongnuch ********
@Kool ******
The category doesn't matter. . . . . . .and he doesn't have an extension, yet. And ALL Non-Imm-O visa categories follow the same requirement, regardless the reason they were issued for: you can apply for the 1-year extension up from 30 days left on the stay permit (Bangkok, CM and Korat 45 days)

@Nongnuch *******
actually that is not true at all. The financial requirements alone are different for all of them. Type O based on marriage requires either bt400,000 in a bank account in your name only, or bt40,000 in monthly transfers. Type O retirement extension requires bt800,000 in your back account, or bt65,000 a month transferred in from an overseas source, and a dependant extension requires bt500,000 for each dependant. And the required paperwork is different too. Try to stay up on what the requirements actually are, because they are not the same for all types of type O extensions.

The threadstarter initially asked for the time period required to change from the Non-O visa to the extension. This period is the SAME for ALL Non-O visa categories. The financial requirements and other requirements document-wise, are a different topic

So you spend two posts ranting about someone going "off topic"

Does anyone else see the irony of this?

Does it really matter? Why are you getting so worked up about nothing?

I'm assuming you got your non-O inside of Thailand. Yes you must apply before the end date of your stamp but you can apply up to 30 days early at most offices.

If you live in Bangkok you would go to Chaeng Watthana. You should go there a few days before you want to apply and ask for the handout of the requirements for your extension as every office has different requirements and they change from time to time. You should go get the handout every year.
