I am planning on getting a non-O visa and extending it based on marriage to a Thai. We just had our US Marriage Certificate stamped by the State, the State Department in DC and now the Thai Consulate in LA, the next step is to have it translated and then submit it to the Dept of Foreign Affairs for their approval/stamp is that correct? What is the cost for this? Thanks for any info.
Answer summary
The user is seeking confirmation on the steps to extend a non-O visa based on their marriage to a Thai citizen, specifically after having their US marriage certificate stamped and translated. Comments provide varying insights into the process, including translation costs (notably under 2,000 THB or around $60), the importance of using approved translators, and recommendations for offices that handle such procedures, as well as the necessity of regular visits to local Amphoe offices for visa renewal.

I took my US marriage certificate to the US embassy in Bangkok to have it notarized and then to an approved translation service that was a few hundred feet away from the embassy. You don’t need to visit the US embassy in Bangkok (lucky for you). Then you go to your Amphoe office in Thailand to get a Thai marriage certificate. Then you are good for 1 year. You have to repeat the visit to the Amphoe office every year. Not too difficult. Good luck.

I can’t recall the price at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but the translation and filing was probably less than $100. There are two things. There are Ministry offices in a couple of other cities that can serve you. I have used the main one in Bangkok and a second in Central Plaza in Pattaya. I tried an outside translator and it was rejected. The Bangkok office had translators that the accepted hang round the office. In Pattaya we were directed to a nearby Soi. I mention this because my solicitors translation was not accepted by the Ministry. Good luck and be patient.

Pavel Malm It is a little much but each step is simple on it's own. To me the hardest part is the paperwork to satisfy the bank and allow you to open an account, after that it's downhill. Immigration at least in Samut Prakarn is easy to work with and very helpful even when they are overworked and mobbed with people.
