Hi everyone. Sorry I know it’s a lose visa issue but I will change from a non O extension based on retirement to a non O based on marriage.
I have my ok to marry from the U.K. Embassy but they gave me a list of only a couple of places to get it translated from. Can I use any licensed translation business to get it done? Thanks everyone in advance
Answer summary
The user is inquiring about the use of licensed translation services for converting their marriage declaration for a visa change from a Non-O retirement extension to a Non-O marriage extension in Thailand. They have received the initial OK to marry from the UK Embassy and seek clarification on whether translation can be done by any licensed business or if specific services are recommended. In response, multiple commenters provided varied advice on using any translation service, but highlighted the benefits of choosing those that can also handle the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) certification, along with potential challenges in changing visa types related to timing and paperwork.

The best translation services to use are the ones that, for an extra fee, will handle the MFA certification that it is an accurate translation, but also be aware that some of them, when they mention the extra service, and you don't want to use it, could not be entirely accurate on the translation, and even though they offer free correction, it makes you do two trips. Just something to be aware of.
Make sure you check on 2 things before making all your plans:
1) See if your immigration office will allow you to apply for your next extension based on marriage rather than retirement. Most immigration offices will allow it without starting over, but some will not.
2) Most immigration offices will not allow you to apply for a marriage extension until you've already been married for a certain amount of months. If your extension date is close, and you're just now getting married, you might run into this. Also best to check with your immigration office.
Tony Dey if you are going to use the Bangrak amphur in Bangkok, that most foreigner marriages are done at, require making an appointment, that can be weeks out. Just something to be aware of. It's not hard to do, as they are both type O extensions, just more documents the first time, without having to leave, and you already meet the financials.
If money is not the reason, why cancel a working, existing visa and change to a brand new one with all the problem and difficulties getting a foreigner married to a Thai visa?
No one has ever claimed any marriage visa advantage other than the money in the bank issue.
I used a place near the embassy years ago. they do the full run around. I come off a marriage extension to retirement. Paper work was a pain anf 1 month under concideration.
Brook Powers I’m fully aware of that. I don’t understand why it bothers you! Just let others make their own choices in life. All I asked for was advice on how to proceed not a question on my judgement. All you’ve done is question my choice!!! What is it about this group where some people just seem intent on posting unhelpful stuff?
I got my document translations done at a place suggested by the US embassy that also brought the documents to the Thai government office to be legalized. It was worth the price for the convenience.
