What is the difference between a non o visa and a non o for marriage?
Answer summary
The primary difference between a Non-O visa and a Non-O visa for marriage lies in their purposes and benefits. The Non-O visa can be issued for various reasons, including retirement, parenting, volunteering, and more, while the Non-O marriage visa specifically caters to foreign spouses of Thai nationals. Importantly, holders of the Non-O marriage visa may be eligible for a work permit, which is not available for Non-O retirement visa holders. Additionally, the marriage visa may require more documentation and home visits from immigration authorities.

A regular Non O visa is for accompanying someone on work or study, while a Non O for marriage is for a spouse and often allows longer stays and more rights.

Difference also in whether you are eligible to get a work permit. Non-O retirement cannot work in Thailand. Non-O marriage can get a work permit and have a job in the Kingdom.

Scooter Max oh, I know which is which... 'Non-O based on Marriage' great relationship, 'happy as Larry'. 'Non-O based on Retirement'... He's not Larry, he's the lonely old retired Expats that spends all his money in booze and bargirls, and much of his time as a keyboard warrior, often with a fake Facebook Profile name, maybe even with his profile locked. He likes to ridicule and belittle others to make himself feel better about his miserable life 🤣 🤣 🤣

Ingvar Bergh I've read one or two reports in this, or other groups in the past week or two, that a visit by IO has been required for a 'Retirement Visa" Extension of Stay. It/they were first hand reports, not someone saying 'I know this guy...'

Maybe there was a concern on the part of IO's about this people, there was no mention, just that it happened and all went ok.

Stephen Howell nobody asked me about any sworn statements from neighbours, just few pics, also you block half the amount of money in a currency that's losing value very easy. Rather block 400k than 800k in thb, everything else is the same, 3 mknth reporting etc.

Gary Stockley Not the women - it's immigration. Everything you do at immigration must have your wife's approval or attendance. Extension applications must have photos of you outside your house, inside your house. Sworn statements from neighbours, landlords etc. You need none of this BS with a retirement visa. You're a totally free agent

Non means non-immigrant. O means other. A non-O is a non-immigrant visa, other category. Rather than non-ED, non-B, etc.

Non-O visas can be issued for many reasons, including marriage to Thai, retirement (age 50+), parent of a half Thai child, parent of a foreign child attending school, volunteer, spouse of a foreigner working in Thailand, and more.
