TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for the marriage visa's yearly extension in Thailand, particularly after the initial 90-day NON-O visa, one must be prepared for a new application process. This involves resubmitting most of the documentation provided during the initial application, including copies of the passport, marriage certificates, identification of the Thai spouse, photographs together, lease agreements, and updated bank documents such as recent bank statements. The process can be lengthy and requires a thorough compilation of paperwork, as local immigration offices may ask for additional documents. Experiences shared by others reveal the need for patience and adherence to bureaucratic requirements, which can be extensive.

It is for sure very stressfull to amass all the papers required to get the marriage visa and so much easier to get a retirement visa. I have applied for it 7 years now. The funniest one was update your bank passbook. I had no transactions from my bank at the time so saw no need to update as there's nothing to print out. The I O told me I must update for that day how nonsensical is that. So I had to go to the bank, pay in 500 baht and update the book.

Why is it nonsensical to have a line printed in your pass book with the balance meeting the requirements dated the day you make the application?

You will need to be very patient. Its a long process with mountains of paperwork, not just as quoted in the handout, but many more supplied by the immigration officer you see, plus monetary information supplied by your bank. I have just completed my 5th married to Thai visa. Finished up with A4 paperwork measuring nearly half inch in depth, probably in the region of 50 x A4 sheets, additionally everything has to be duplicated so one copy of the application can be sent to Bangkok, whilst the second copy remains at your local office. Good luck you will need it plus lots of patients!!!!

When you go back you're doing a completely different process (applying for a year extension)

You're going to need all the paperwork you used to apply for the 90 day non o, (copies of passport, marriage documents, wife's I/d, photos, lease, new bank letter, print out from the bank of the last 2 months statement, updated bank book, etc)

It's a whole new thing.. so requires all new paperwork

You should go to your immigration office an get the hand out listing the requirements for the year extension..

You'll apply and get a 30 day under consideration stamp, then go back after that runs down to get the year inked in

The hand out is useful, but only a small part of all you need. The process is so long and requires so much paper work, and every thing in duplicate, one local copy, one to Bangkok for approval. I have extended a number of times now and I complete the process feeling completely exhausted, there must surely be a more less complicated system for this type of extension.!!!!

It was abused years ago with many fake marriages so, as a result, the process has been tightened up considerably. We now reap the consequences.

That sounds about correct, and I understand!! However I still feel that there is far too much paperwork involved, much of which is unnecessary, especially when diving into your personal finances. I ask, why do they need a years bank statement when they already have the bank book stating the same information???

And expect a visit from Immigration whilst under consideration.
