What documents are needed to extend a Non-O visa based on marriage in Thailand?

In order to get an extension on my non O visa for marriage I was asked to provide a document from the local Amphur called xxxx22. We were married in the UK 53 years ago and we have a notarised Thai/English document which is all we have ever needed up until now.

We have never registered our marriage with the Amour previously but in order to get the above certificate we must get my passport certified but the UK embassy.

Any advice? I want to go to the embassy in Bkk but I cannot find the site to make an appointment

TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your Non-O visa based on your marriage, you need to have your marriage certificate certified in the UK, then subsequently certified by the Thai embassy in London. In Thailand, you must also get your passport certified at your embassy and have both documents translated into Thai and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Bangkok before registering your marriage at the local Amphur. It's advised to seek professional help or consider alternatives like remarrying in Thailand, which could simplify the process.

This lady organises MFA translations and embassy documents (for my Australian docs, assume UK can be done as well)

Saying that if you have a yellow book you should be able to go to the local govt office that issued it and ask for a Kor Ror 22 or whatever it’s called

Just thinking out of the box a little. I am not legally trained so you would need to take professional advice.

Why not just get married again in Thailand? You can swear the affidavit at the British Embassy because you are free to marry each other.

The same logic applies at the Amphur Office when you marry again.

I can't see how you are breaking any law because each of you remain married to one person.

Maybe worth checking out.

You cannot get married again. Both parties need to attest that they are free to marry, which they cannot because they are married alreeady.

And once you have MFA certification you and your wife go to your amphur with all the documents (and maybe a witness or 2) to get your overseas marriage registered in Thailand. They will give you a Kor Ror 22 (perhaps a few).

Update: you should be able to do this at any khet or amphur office.

The embassy in Bangkok doesn’t do this service. You need to send it to the registration service in the Uk and then to the Thai consulate in London. Then to the MFA in Bangkok before the amphur. It’s a complete ball ache

Yeah, the British Embassy in Bangkok (there’s no separate consulate) does provide certified copies of UK passports for British expats in Thailand. It’s a notarial service they offer – you bring your original passport, they photocopy and stamp it as a true copy. Costs around £25-50 usually, but check current fees.

You gotta book an appointment online through their system first – no walk-ins. Some folks say it can even be done by post now for this specific service, but most do it in person. Super common for things like marriage registration, bank stuff, or visa extensions here.

Head to gov.uk for the exact notarial guide for Thailand to book.

Thanks Julian. I have made an appointment with the embassy for next month. (Fee £25)

I will need to get it translated to Thai and then have it stamped at the MFA.

I got a quote of 3750 baht, can anyone recommend another option or company. I would like to do it myself if possible, I mean taking it to the MFA

It sounds like this is the first time you have tried to get a marriage extension. As you would have entered on a marriage Non-O there is no chance of getting an extension based on retirement so you've put yourself in a very awkward situation.

Unfortunately, you're going to need a lot more than that.

You need to get your marriage certificate certified in the UK, then certified by the Thai embassy in London.

Then in Thailand you'll need to get your passport certified from your embassy and then you need to get both your certified passport copy and your marriage certificate translated from English to Thai. Once you have those translations you need to get them certified by the MFA in Bangkok.
