Hi, my elite visa is finishing in February, I'm 44, Australian, I'm married to a Thai and want to switch to a non o based on marriage.

I have the required 400k in the bank for a long time now.

I have yellow book, Thai ID, drivers licence and bank accounts.

My question is;

Using a visa service can I forgo having to leave and apply in loas, and if so, can I get my visa through kalasin where I live.

I'm just being lazy and not wanting to deal with immigration in loas.

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on switching from an Elite Visa to a Non-O Visa based on marriage without leaving Thailand, as their Elite Visa expires in February. They possess the necessary financial credentials and documentation. The community suggests that while typically one would need to leave the country to apply for a Non-O Visa, there might be alternatives through local immigration offices or using visa services, though some caution about the difficulties of processing inland. It's advised to directly consult with local immigration in Kalasin or consider applying for a visa through services or embassies, while also being aware of procedural requirements.

You will need to apply in the province you live in. If they don’t have one then enquire where to go. It can be done without going to Loas

I applied for my marriage visa (eVisa) from US embassy while in Bali. You may be able to to apply for a marriage visa from the Embassy in Australia. I found Brisbane and Melbourne to be the friendliest (4 years ago).

You would still need to leave the country but you can forgo the hassle of an immigration office.

It's a bit of a gamble on your part. I made the same gamble and it worked out for me, I can't promise it will work out for you.

I started the visa process while in Thailand. I did have to show flights going into Thailand. Also, when they requested more paperwork I explained my situation and they seemed cool, they gave me the visa.

Just leave and come back visa on a visa exemption and apply for your non-o in Thailand. 90 day non-o followed by a 12 month extension.

3900THB. No need to leave the following year

hi mate you state in fees 3900THB on there only FYI 1900THB it’s not much just curious!

@Rob *****
I think that he means 2000 for the Non-O, then 1900 for the 12 month Extension

When my elite ran out I went to Vietnam for a few days then did the visa exempt to non-0 route. Just remember your elite has to be expired when you return. Nobody could tell me (and believe me I asked plenty) what would happen if I just had a day or two left on the elite. Pain in the ass but you can't do anything other than wait until it's expired.

As you are in Kalasin pop to immigration there & ask is the best option. But saying that I did for my last extension & submitted paperwork & they tossed

I really don,t think it is that difficult to deal with. Just be aware rumor has it the Savannakhet office no longer offers multiple entry Type O visas.

@Jacob *******
the posts I've seen didn't say they stopped issuing them (I got one 3 weeks ago), but that they now require the 400k in the bank as of last week sometime.
Jacob ********
@Wylie ******
The requirement is now money in a Thai bank account? Or I guess apply in your home country.
Wylie *******
@Jacob *******
I'm not really sure. A post a few days ago said they now have a financial requirement of 400k, same as in country. I asked a few questions but didn't ask if it was required to be in a Thai bank account. If so then I don't see any benefit to going there over applying in country and getting a reentry stamp. Way cheaper overall, easier, and you get stamped in for a year vs 90 days.

I have to agree besides paying all the fees to get into Laos now just not worth the hassle. Did enjoy the drama one time when a Euro with his monthly rental hired a long boat to enter illegally. Another criminal genius that somehow made it into Thailand.

@Jacob *******
yeah, it kind of felt like a planes, trains, and automobiles type of a trip with all the different transfers and fees. I had just over a dozen changes in transportation there and back.
Jacob ********
@Wylie ******
Chong Mek is much worse. I lost count how many types of transport I needed just to cross the border. Had Taxi Mafia written all over it. That was sadly the last straw for me and Laos. The government has managed to seriously screw up the country. The fast train as on example as just another boondoggle that displaced thousands. Nothing but a eyesore. Having said that Thailand is heading down that same dangerous path also.

@Jacob *******
Depends where you live, I'm in Ubon, Chong Mek and Savannakhet are super easy to get to.

@Jacob *******
nope someone posted yesterday they were issued it.

@Michael *******
Has the embassy website changed ? So Sanannaket still offers one year multiple entry Type O visas for marriage (without) a bank account?
Michael ********
@Jacob *******
i am not sure about the financial requirement but someone commented on "jack whites ?" Post who was one who couldnt get a multi entry. They got the multi yesterday. It has never been posted on there website that they offer multiple. You just write multiple on top of Single entry form
Steve *******
@Michael *******
It's not even a "single entry form". The app form gives you the options of multi entry or single entry.
Jacob ********
@Michael *******
So what was the issue with Jack White? Did not dress for success ?
Michael ********
@Jacob *******
was mike smith no idea where i got name jack white from but both generic caucasian names.

Coming from Elite to Non O requires you to leave the country.
