Hi, I’m asking on behalf of a friend. His retirement visa expires Oct 16 but he want to leave for the US in mid-September. Is there a limit prior to the expiry date on when he can renew? Thanks in advance..

TLDR : Answer Summary
A retirement visa holder in Thailand can typically apply for a renewal within 30 days of the visa's expiry. Some immigration offices might allow renewal applications up to 45 days prior. It's recommended for the individual to check directly with their local immigration office for specific guidelines.

Most offices will let you apply for a new yearly extension when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp and a few will let you do it when you have 45 days or less; Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Phuket, Buriram, and a few others. SO he needs to check with his immigration office.
