TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the document requirements for renewing a 12-month retirement visa in Thailand, specifically regarding the necessity of health insurance. Several commenters clarify that if health insurance was not required during the initial application for a retirement visa, it likely won’t be necessary for the extension either. However, it’s recommended to confirm the latest requirements at the local immigration office. Additionally, there are specifics about financial proof needed for the visa renewal, emphasizing the distinction between Non-O and Non-OA visas in terms of health insurance requirements. The conversation suggests visiting immigration directly or considering an agent for assistance with the renewal process.

Fyi, you're not renewing your visa. You're extending your permission to stay. You're not on a visa while in country,but your extension is based on an initial visa,which I guess is a Non-O.

Which visa are you on now?

Non-OA requires health insurance and can be obtained only from home country. I am also collecting for 2nd renewal: Samut Prakan requires verified (stamped) TM30, as i am moving onto 65,000 monthly transfer method i am awaiting the 12th on 4th of August. Proof that I maintained 800,000 for 3 months from the last extension and minimum 400,000 thereafter until the 2nd extension application. I will also prepare schedule of transfers from Wise to my BKK a/c which seems to be the recent requirement in some IOs in addition to transfers being shown as “Foreign Transfer”. The form, 2 copies of passport including visa pages, photos and 1900 baht. A checklist for both of us. Anything else to add?

I’d just go through an agent it saves a lot of headaches 😉

Please tell me what your problems are with immigration and requirements? If you don't know what type of initial visa you're on and need help with exactly same copies every year,then maybe you should think about relocating. Doing 1 year extensions is a walk in the park for every person with half a brain.I'm spending 5-6 minutes every year inside my immigration office when doing my 1 year extensions.

are they. I don't want to use agent as think it is expensive but if people can afford it and are happy to pay I'm not sure that makes them rip off merchants.

Agreed! I just did this 2 weeks ago. Saw the same sea of people waiting for their number to be called. I had to wait too, but in a coffee shop drinking a latte while my agent took care of business. I ❤️ my agent!

The OA requires health insurance. The O does not require health insurance. You probably have an O visa.

Go to your local immigration office and get the current list of requirements for an extension

You must have got a non O visa originally, so you don't need health insurance.

If you didn’t need any mandatory health insurance for the initial visa, you’ll don’t need it for the extension either. The requirements varies slightly between immigrations and it’s best to visit your immigration and get handed over their requirements before you apply. If you don’t have a affidavit letter regarding income the 800K baht has to be seasoned for two months prior to your first application. If you’re on your second year, you’ll need to prove twelve months consecutive transfers of minimum 65K baht if you want to change to the income method.

@Jenny *****
then you should know that a Non immigrant visa is only valid for 90 days and that for the Non-O there is no health insurance requirement.

@Pete ******
Since when is a non-immigrant visa only valid 90 days? Maybe you should learn more about correct terminology.

the discussion is about retirement, here the Non-O is only valid for 90 days. Suggest you also read and research and not spout nonsense.
