What is the difference between a 90-day tourist visa validity and a 60-day stay in Thailand?

90 Day Tourist Visa?- Please see attached. I took a second look at my visa because I was planning to extend my 60 day for another 30 days. When I looked (attached) I realized the visa was for 90 days. I thought tourist visas were only given for 60 and not 90 days? Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the confusion around the 90-day tourist visa validity and its actual duration of stay. Many users highlight that although the visa is valid for 90 days, it typically allows for a 60-day stay upon entry. To extend their stay beyond 60 days, travelers must apply for an extension before their entry stamp expires. This common misunderstanding about visa types and durations emphasizes the importance of checking both the visa validity and the entry stamp to avoid overstaying.

Excuse me, One quick question should I show a ticket out of Thailand at 60 days or tell them I will extend to 90 and then show the ticket out of Thailand on the 90 days?

Thanks for such a quick answer! You the man! Have a great evening Tod🤗

@Sa***
from what I have read, the thai consulate in Los Angeles will accept proof of onward travel dated between 60 and 90 days out for a tourist visa.

They know you can get a 30 day extension inside the country.

and what thai consulate are you getting your tourist visa from?

It is NOT a stupid question at all :/ In fact, this question comes up a LOT and part of the confusion is the thai consulates sell this visa as a 90 day tourist visa. :O

It is VALID for 90 days, but ALL tourist visas from thai consulates only get you stamped in for 60 days.

Matthew Donatello I was really confused too when I got my 60 Day Tourist Visa that ended after 90 Days.

I actually even went to immigration to ask them why it was 90 days and yet my stamp was 60 days. I was kinda hoping for “oh hey you got a rare 90 day Tourist Visa, enjoy it!”

Haha I guess I’m an optimist 😜

They never explained it but instead just said “nope it’s 60 days”

Thank you

n for clarifying that it’s the validity of the visa and the date is the expiratory of the visa’s validity.

You're welcome! As i said, it's a common misunderstanding :)

i live in Thailand and I've met people here and they insist they've got a 90 day tourist visa, even when I tell them such a thing doesn't exist.

Ok- that makes sense. Thank you

This is a common misunderstanding. Good thing you asked before your 60 day expiration!

you need to look at your entry stamp to see when your 60 days expires and extend before or on that date.

do you mean the 27 Feb date? That's the validity of the visa, meaning from issuance you have 90 days to enter the country. If you got the visa, but waited until after 27 Feb, then it would no longer be valid. But it is a 60 day visa, so you will have to extend if you want to stay longer.
