TLDR : Answer Summary
The current visa extension policy in Bangkok allows for a second extension due to COVID-19 reasons. Additionally, travelers need to obtain a temporary TM 30 registration at immigration for a fee of 100 THB, which is valid for 12 hours.

Awesome, that's great news. I just need to find a way to get a TM30, I might have to book a hotel to get one. I am currently staying at a friend's, and he is traveling...

No, embassy letter is not required if you're eligible for the covid extension (which everyone is). It was only required last round because non immigrant visa holders were excluded from the covid extensions. That's not the case anymore.

I had the same question, whether the embassy letter is still required in BKK?
