I plan to apply for an METV this December and would like to know if it is common to get a 30 day extension to the 60 days allowed before leaving?

Actually most get the METV because they want to visit other countries around Thailand also, and it's the easiest to do that with. Taking the 30 day extensions is the first thing immigration looks at when they try to decide if you are trying to live here long term on tourist entries, either visa exempt entries, or purchased tourist visas. Keep that in mind when taking the extensions. Most actual tourists don't do that, with less than 20% staying more than two weeks.

I've been studying for it for a long time now. Picking up need to do's and learning what info was trash to take out. This trip I plan to work on a definitive list and ask lots of questions of the many expats that frequent one of my wife's brothers bar/pub/restaurant in Bang Saray, where we plan to live out our "end game". If you know of any good source for a "check list" type of info, I'd be appreciative.
