Sorry for my ignorance is there anyone can explain to me what is a non O visa mean and the difference with other visa.

Cheers JP
Answer summary
The Non-O visa in Thailand stands for Non-Immigrant Visa in the 'Other' category, which encompasses various scenarios like retirement, marriage to a Thai citizen, and other dependencies. There are different types of Non-O visas, such as Non-O for retirees or for those married to Thai nationals. The application processes and requirements can vary significantly, with the retirement visa generally being easier to manage in terms of paperwork and extensions. Overall, the Non-O visa allows long-term stays and is suitable for expats residing part-time or full-time in Thailand.

Jean Pierre i have applied for my non o visa , it will give me 90 days when i arrive in thailand to get a bank account deposit

0 baht ,maintain it for 2 months then apply for a 12 month extension to be done every year so it is a retirement visa for over 50s if thats the explanation you are after other than what the o means.

Non=non-immigrant and the O means other reason. You aren't visiting for tourism or education, you are "Other.

Good question I've got one and still don't understand why they appear to be all classed as Non O, mind you probably got this wrong to.

Google for some great you tube videos on this topic

Or just read the govt literature on line

Vinson Dynes If you are an unhelpful fuckface - do not bother responding. Not everyone is an illiterate who relies on YouTube videos of questionable origin.

Thailand government and embassies are not great at explaining on the web. Links would have been great. Some hints on what that cryptic 'O' actually means would also have been great.

I will read on, to actually learn something here.

Usually your Thai Embassy in your home country provides lists with a good overview of different types of visa and there requirements.

HuaHinner2010 most embassies are by appointment only 😔 If it's a 2 hour drive, I'd rather ask here, of course you are bound to come across morons 😬

HuaHinner2010 The embassy websites generally suck at providing complete and understandable information. The Washington embassy looks a bit better than others.

The O stands for Other so it covers a variety of different visa scenarios, retirement, marriage, dependant, and so on

Jean-Pierre Rival I think that part of the confusion stems from "non" referring to "immigrant", not "other". So, it is actually a "Non-Immigrant visa in the Other category".

I have only searched around a bit (might need something else than visa-exempt in a couple years), so any correction is welcome.

the choice would be yours. Either a 90 day Non-O based on retirement or marriage, the retirement one is a lot easier and extensions are usually issued on the day whereas with the marriage option extensions go under consideration for a month or so before you get the full 12 months, plus there's a lot more paperwork involved. If you haven't done so already you would also need to get your marriage certificate apostilled in France and stamped by the Thai embassy in Paris then by the MFA in Thailand in order for your local Amphur to issue the certificate required for the marriage visa/ extension inside Thailand. The only other real difference is the amount of money you need to show in your thai bank. As you are back and forth you would also need a re-entry permit, you can get single or multiple entries for the duration of your extension

Ian Morrison The MFA needs to approve it before the local Amphur will accept it to register the marriage which is required by Immigration for visa/extension purposes

John, the Embassy in Paris will stamp his translations (marriage cert and apostilled document) as genuine. He does not need to get the MFA to do it as well.
